Lena's first day at Hoover High was filled with anxiety. Not only did she get lost going from class to class but she had gotten her cycle and had no pads on her. Trying to remain together she really just wanted to fade into the background as she stood on the lunch line in the cafeteria feeling both nauseous and queasy. Finding a place to sit and figuring out who she was going to sit with was another issue and she really just wanted to skip lunch period all together. Deciding on the grilled cheese with water not only were her feet hurting from the stupid flats she decided to wear but it rained and her hair was a frizzy hot mess. She was wondering if the day could get any worse for the school was so big she had not even see her cousins friend, Stef who seemed to be the only person she felt ok around. Once they had gotten to school that morning Tess ran off to meet some of her friends and Lena needed to figure out and navigate her first day alone. Not that she wasn't capable but the school was much larger then her last one. Making her way outside the cafeteria she saw all the kids gather around their tables and social circles as she looked for an empty spot. Finding one and walking to it she instantly regretted it as she spotted her cousin Tess sitting with a bunch of her friends at the table beside the empty one. Swallowing hard her eyes instantly noticed Stef who was laughing and joking with a dark haired guy and a few other girls. No way could she go over and as she turned to go back to the empty table someone knocked into her dropping her food all over and her books. Wanting to just burst into tears the kid laughed running off as she picked up the now dirty grilled cheese, her apple and water.

"Hey! You could at least say sorry next time asshole!" She suddenly heard and looked up seeing Stef who now bent down to help her. "Let me help you."

"Thanks. I got it though." Lena said trying so hard not to cry but the blonde could see she was upset.

"Hey it's ok. I can get you another lunch I have some money on me or you can have the rest of mine. It's nothing to write home about but you're welcome to have it."

"I'm ok. Just,...I'll just go into the library." Lena said getting up and throwing the tray in the trash as Stef blocked her.

"Look I know you're shy and that's ok. But you can't not eat. Trust me ya'll need  the energy. Sometimes afternoon classes drag like shit. Let me see your schedule?"

"Um..ok." Grabbing it from her book she handed it to the blonde who looked just as pretty as the day before. Her long hair was still in waves and she wore a Gun's and Roses tee shirt with the same ripped jeans and LA Gears.

"Cool we have all the same classes this afternoon."

"Oh do we? I didn't see you this morning." Lena blurted out.

"Oh I was late shocker right?" She chuckled as the light skin teen smiled. " But yeah we got Anderson and Miller. Not horrible but ya'll need something to eat. Come sit with us." Glancing to her and back at the table to see her cousin talking and eating with her other friends Lena glanced back to Stef who was smiling and soon grabbed her hand. "Come Lena we don't bite I'll introduce you to everyone."

"Stef my cousin..

"Come on. So what she will get over it." Seeing she wouldn't take no for an answer Stef held her hand tightly as they walked over to the lunch able. The young teen couldn't help but feel comfortable around the blonde for she was so welcoming and kind that she almost didn't know what to do about it.

"Hey everyone this is Lena Tess's cousin. Lena this Andy, Michelle, and Mike."

"Hey!" They all said as Tess looked somewhat irritated and annoyed at her cousin.

"Hi everyone."

"Come have a seat Len." Sitting beside the blonde Stef handed her the other half of her ham sandwich and the rest of her soda. Lena didn't eat pork but right now she wasn't picky as Mike handed her a bag of chips and an apple.

"You don't want it?"

"Nah. I'm full."

"Thanks." Lena said smiling as she glanced to Stef who winked at her again. But looking back at her cousin her face was anything but amused as she looked more and more annoyed and threatened. Tess couldn't help but notice how much attention her friend was giving Lena. It was more then she liked and she was wondering why she was feeling jealous but she was.

The rest of the afternoon went much smoother then the morning for Lena sat beside Stef in every class. She had to admit it was hard to pay attention for she found herself staring at her and admiring how pretty and outgoing she was. Already she loved her personality for it was outgoing, wild and friendly. Stef herself really liked Lena and didn't understand why Tess didn't like her. She seemed sweet, sure she was painfully shy but the blonde knew it wasn't easy being new when everyone else already had friends. Stef had always been the type of person to welcome new people and make them feel at home but she had to admit she was trying harder with Lena.  Quickly writing a note to Lena Stef folded it up and as the teacher turned his back she quickly placed the note on her desk. Smiling at the caramel skinned teen who was diligently taking notes Lena now opened it carefully feeling blushed.

Mike and I are heading to see Nightmare on Elm Street Friday. Come along! And don't make me beg! Don't worry he's not my boyfriend so you're not a third wheel! -Stef

Smiling at the note Lena looked to the blonde grinning and nodding her head. She wasn't really sure if it was a good idea for her cousin seemed to be acting really funny but she wanted to go. Stef could only return the grin as both went back to taking notes and each teen could feel butterflies floating around in their stomachs. The level of attraction was definitely mutual but would remain unspoken.

-----------

I don't think Tess is going to like this friendship.
