Nicky stopped at a gas station in Pennsylvania. She yawned as she filled up the gas tank in the "borrowed" car she had been using for the past day. No matter how tired she was, she never let her guard down, and her worry for Jacie and Jason never left her mind.
She knew that Jason would take good care of her, but even though he was insanely good with things like this, he can't just suddenly know everything. He can't protect Jacie every single minute. How would he know if a spy was hiding on top of a building unless he heard about it or saw the person?
Nicky sighed heavily. She needed to calm down. Jason was doing everything in his power to protect poor Jacie. She felt really bad that her fifteen year old daughter had to be caught up in all of this, but the day Nicky and her husband had decided to brain wash her enough to protect her from the truth was when it all went down hill.
They both tried so hard to protect her and their son, but that didn't work. Brian was taken, no matter how hard they tried to keep him safe. He's been gone for two years now. That's why her and her husband had to leave Jacie with a protector, who at first was not Jason. Now, Nicky's husband was taken too, probably never to be seen again, just like her son Brian.
Nicky quickly wiped a tear from her face, and got back into her car. She hoped she wouldn't need to stop again until she made it to Ohio. She hoped that by then, Jason and Jacie would be at the first meeting point in Kentucky.
~oOo~
Jason and Jacie were back on the road. Another LONG, uncomfortable ride. Sitting too much always made Jacie's leg hurt worse. Even though it had only been about two days since the truck blew up with her father in it, her injuries had been healing, but were still very sore.
Jason had gotten some bandages for his bullet wound at Walmart just hours ago. Jacie couldn't forget how painful it looked cleaning that thing on his own. She wanted to help, but the sight of it made her feel sick and dizzy. Although, it seemed he had done something like that before.
"We're going to make it across the Texas border in about four hours," Jason said. "I just want you to be prepared if anything happens. They could be waiting for us there, or follow us once we pass it. I need you to be on guard the whole time and do as I say. Got it?"
Jacie nodded nervously.
"I need you to answer me with your voice."
He looked her in the eyes, and she saw that he was dead serious. Jacie nodded slowly as she replied, "Yes sir. I'll do everything you say, and be on my guard at all times."
"Good," he nodded back as his eyes searched the road again.
Jacie was completely serious when she answered that question, but just one hour later, she was nodding off to sleep. Both her and Jason hadn't slept well last night. He had gotten less sleep than her, but she only got about four or five hours of sleep, which she wasn't used to. Usually, she'd go to bed at ten and wake up however early her dad needed her, but never past eight o'clock. Jason had woken her up at six or seven in the morning, and they'd gone to bed around two or three, so it was pretty late.
Jacie thought about how her dad would yell at her for having such a bad night of sleep, but in this situation, he would most likely understand.
~oOo~
Jacie woke with a start to find that Jason had pulled over and was not in the car anymore. She was next to a dark forest, and she swore she saw things looking at her with glowing red eyes.
"Jason?" Jacie said, looking around as quickly as possible. "Jason!?"
She began to have a panic attack when she realized he was gone and her seat belt would not budge. "Jason!"
She began to weep as she tried and tried to get her seat belt undone, but it would not move. She started hearing terrifying noises coming from the forest, when out of nowhere, Jason appeared. He was looking for something, but he was getting closer and closer to the forest full of monsters.
"Jason, come back!" Jacie screamed, banging the car window. "Jason! It's dangerous in there!"
But Jason did not hear her. He got closer and closer to the forest, almost as if in a trance until, BANG! Something smacked him to the ground as he yelled in pain. The black hand with sharp claws that had hit him now had his leg in a death grip, and began dragging him deeper and deeper into the forest.
Jacie screamed his name over and over again, banging the window and trying to unhook her seat belt, but her efforts were in vain. Jason was gone.
~oOo~
Levi was driving silently behind Jason's car. They seemed to be heading towards the Texas border. That seemed like a good place to attack, but Levi had other plans. He wanted to find out where this meeting place was that they had been talking about earlier when that little annoying girl kept asking questions. Levi was able to put a microphone in the car last night once he figured out which car they had been using.
It looked like she was asleep now, obviously having some kind of bad dream the way she was tossing and turning. Jason allowed her to sleep, though. Levi was confused as to why he hadn't woken her up the first time he noticed she was sleeping.
Levi scoffed. Maybe he really did have a soft spot for this little brat, or he was just trying to put up with her the best he could. He would have to be around her until they made it to Kentucky, was it?
"That is, if they make it," Levi smiled, putting his hand on his pistol.
I'm going to try and update every one to two weeks if possible. Hope you enjoyed this chapter. I'll try to make the next one more exciting. Please like and comment if you want! Thanks!
