Jason entered the rundown building they were using as a hideout where Jonathan was watching over the three children. Brian and Jacie should have been here by now. Something must have gone wrong. With their luck so far, he wouldn't be surprised.
"Where are Brian and Jacie?" Jonathan asked with a hopeful smile.
Jason looked away without a reply. That melted Jonathan's heart.
"It was James, wasn't it? He took them both didn't he?" He glared.
"Wait... James?" The oldest girl wondered. "You think he took them?"
"Yeah, he's the one behind all of this!" Jonathan snapped.
The oldest shook her head. "No, no. That's just what he wants you to think. James is the prisoner... Liam is the one who created all of this. Liam is the boss."
Jason and Jonathan looked at each other in horror. "He's been with us the whole time! How could I have missed it?" Jason shouted in anger, feeling retarded for not thinking of this before. Liam had tricked them all.
"We know what you can do," the little boy smiled mischievously. "We know his weakness."
~oOo~
"Really, Jacie. You must be mistaken," Liam said, but it was obvious they had figured out his little scheme.
Jacie just smiled. "No way of hiding it now. We know, uncle."
Liam glared at her. "You really are too clever for my liking, both of you. I should have gotten rid of you while I had the chance."
"Then why didn't you?" Brian inquired bravely.
That, Liam did not answer. So for the time being, it remained a mystery. Instead, he leaned against the door and folded his arms. It was very clear he would not let them out, but Jacie knew Jason. He would come.
Brian looked around the darkened room, realizing this was some kind of interrogation room. There was a wooden table in the middle where two people could sit and there was another one of those weird metal chairs they can strap you down in across from them. He was sure James, the real James, had been in here at one point. He wished none of this had ever happened, especially because he'd helped them.
Jacie stared at her uncle. She couldn't tell if she felt hate or compassion towards him. He was doing this for some reason she did not yet know, but she could tell it was a reason that hit him deep to the core.
"Liam, you can stop this now and fix things," she started. "After all those years I've spent with you, I know their's good in you. Why would a bad person be so kind to those in need, even if he was pretending to be someone else? Please, all I want is to have an uncle I can love and trust. Let us go and we'll help you stop this."
