Jacie followed her father to the lab, where a doctor tended to her sore wrists from being strapped down. As James did his thing, Jacie took in her surroundings.
There were large computers set up around some kind of glass case. In the glass case was a bunch of weird, clear liquid, and in the liquid was a developing baby. It looked kind of creepy, just floating there and twitching once in a while, but she felt more sorry for it than afraid. This poor baby was here because of her, now it was going to have to suffer more than she ever did.
To the left of all this chaos, was a large cage like thing. Almost like a giant cage for dogs, like in a pound or something. Two girls around the ages of six and eight sat in the cage with a boy that was at least seven. They looked like normal little kids, but were all dirty, wearing rags and their hair was a mess.
Without thinking, she went over to them and crouched by the cage. "What happened?" Jacie asked, reaching to stroke the little boy's face.
He flinched, so she pulled away, seeing the fear in their eyes. What had happened to these poor innocent children? Jacie felt a strong hand on her shoulder right when the kids scooted away and cowered in the furthest corner of their cell. Looking up, she saw her dad.
"These are failed attempts of making kids like you, Jacie," he explained, helping her stand. "But now that we have you on our side, they won't have to end up this way anymore."
"Why are they in this cage?"
"Even though they're failed attempts, they've got quite a few tricks up their sleeves," he replied, gently pulling her away from them, and gesturing towards the growing baby in the case. "Look at this. You have created life. This child will be just like you. You can help train it, raise it. We can teach it to become even better than Jason Bourne."
Jason Bourne? Jacie hadn't ever heard his last name before, but it sounded really familiar. She swore she'd heard her parents talk about it once a while ago. Well, Nicky was old friends with him, no doubt they talked about him even just a little bit.
Jacie looked down at the ground in misery. Everything about this felt wrong.
"Boss!" A guard shouted, running into the room, getting everyone's attention. "Boss! It's Brian... he's... he's turning himself in to you."
James looked at Jacie suspiciously, but realized she was just as confused. "Bring him in."
A second guard led Brian into the room, handcuffed. When she and Brian made eye contact, she knew instantly something was going on... but what?
The guard threw Brian to the ground in front of James, and it took every muscle in Jacie's body to keep from helping him.
James knelt down on one knee and lifted Brian's head by his thick black hair. "I see my son has taken it upon himself to make this a family reunion. Why are you here?"
Brian glared slightly. "Because... without my blood, you can't fully develop a child with everything you want them to have."
Jacie's eyes went wide. Why would Brian turn himself in to help them?
~oOo~
Jacie could hardly watch as the scientists brought in a special chair and strapped Brian into it. What would they do to him and why on earth had he come here?
James circled the chair, his hands clasped behind his back. "So, you think we can't do this without your blood? Why's that?"
"Mom never told you that she added some of mine to Jacie, but it's not enough to make a new kid," Brian glared at him.
"I can't quite grasp the concept about why you wanted to tell me this and turn yourself in?"
