Nicky watched as Jason pulled out of the driveway. She knew he was right, about everything. They shouldn't have tested their theories on their daughter, they just shouldn't have done anything with the CIA in the first place. At the time, it had felt like the right thing, but now, she felt horrible. What she did was wrong, and she knew it, even though it took her a long time to realize it. She had to fix this. It was all her fault.
Bringing her thoughts to a halt, she heard a loud crash in the kitchen and Liam yell. She hoped he'd just dropped something on his foot... but inside, she knew it was more serious than that.
Cautiously making her way to the kitchen, she peaked her head in, then gasped. "Liam!"
~oOo~
Jonathan exited the gas station, but froze in the middle of the parking lot when he noticed Jacie wasn't in the car anymore. In a frenzy, he turned in circles, looking everywhere. He was so worried, he even looked to see if she was on top of the gas station or something. Nowhere. "This is not good," he said under his breath.
Suddenly, something small and hard hit him in the back of the head. "Ow!" He glared, turning around to see who might have thrown it.
He caught a glimpse of someone's head duck behind the building. If that was Jacie, he was not in the mood for playing games. Without a word, he made his way over, only to be surprised by Jason and a random boy standing there. Jacie was next to them.
"Uh... have I missed something here?" He asked.
The random boy smirked. "Yeah. Everything."
Jacie glared at him, then cut in. "Jonathan... there's been a change of plans."
"We're all going to Las Vegas," Jason told him. "We're the only ones who can stop this. It's all up to us now."
Jonathan looked from Jacie to Jason in confusion. Hadn't they just been running away from Jason because he wouldn't let them go? And who was this other dude? "Okay...?"
One thing Jacie liked about Jonathan was that he just kinda went along with everything, even if he didn't have all the details. She was slightly upset to bring Jonathan into all this, even though she was going to anyway, because he had been her only normal piece of life. Now... he was a part of the life she wished she didn't have, but there was nothing she could do about it.
Using Jonathan's father's car, they began their long journey to Vegas, where the biggest facility for this... operation of making children assassins would begin. Brian explained that Mr. Bundy, his boss, would be there and it would be the perfect time to take him down, but he did know that Mr. Bundy wasn't the only guy in charge of this. There was someone else, someone they never let him see or know about.
Jacie could tell this greatly bothered her brother, but she wasn't entirely sure why. Maybe it meant that they were hiding something more? Maybe it was something that not even Nicky or her father knew about.
Brian was silent for a long time, avoiding eye contact with Jacie. Her and Brian were in the back with Jason and Jonathan in front. She'd tried to tell him things about their parents, but right now, he didn't seem interested. He almost looked pained to hear about it.
Hours away from Vegas about a day or two later, Brian finally mentioned what he remembered about his past life. He was a lot like Jason. What was it with these guys and hiding things?
"Jacie... is our dad's name James Baker?"
She was taken by surprise. "Yes, what about him?"
He glanced down at his hands, which were nervously clamped together. "I think I know where he is."
