Jacie finally regained consciousness. Her eyes fluttered open, but above, she saw tall trees and bright stars shining in the dark night sky. Jacie didn't know how she had even gotten here, when all of the sudden it all came flooding back.

She quickly sat up, realizing that there was a fire going nearby. She cringed when she felt a sharp pain in her side, and quickly put her hand on it. Her leg was only aching, which she was glad of, because she already had a bad headache, and her arm felt bruised.

She heard rustling in the bushes to her right. "Dad?" She asked.

It was not her dad.

Jason came into view, carrying some sticks he'd found to keep the fire going.

He dropped them to the ground near the fire and knelt next to Jacie, feeling her forehead. "How do you feel?" He said kindly.

Jacie kept her hand on her side. "Where's my dad?" She asked, ignoring his question.

He looked down, avoiding eye contact for just a moment, telling Jacie something that she didn't want to accept. Dad hadn't made it out of the car. Jason hadn't even said anything when she burst into tears, pausing once in a while to cringe and hold her side. It hurt to even breathe.

"I'm so sorry," he said as if reading her thoughts. "I tried to get him out, but there wasn't time." He looked down at where she was holding her side. "Are you hurt?"

Jacie couldn't keep the tears from coming, but she let him look at it. He lifted her shirt enough to see the injury, and felt it to make sure her ribs weren't broken, making her pull back in pain. Jaice didn't care about herself right now. Her dad was gone forever, and there was nothing she could do about it.

She lied down on her good side and kept weeping, this time, ignoring the pain in her other side. She felt hands grab her shoulders and make her sit up, and Jason brought her into a warm embrace. Jacie hadn't taken him as the touchy-feely type, but it helped her calm down a little.

She rested her head on his chest and sniffled. "Oh Jason," she whimpered.

"I know," he said softly, wrapping both of his arms protectively around her. "I know."

Nicky couldn't believe what she had just read on that computer. She had to get to Jason and Jacie. They had to know what had happened, it was too important to wait any longer.

Nicky had hacked into the files of TreadStone to find out more about Jason, and his past life, but she stumbled upon something else that would change all their lives forever. TreadStone was open again, and they were planning something so much worse than what they had before.

They were going to use children as killing machines.

Nicky had already suffered so much, Jason had already suffered so much, and now her daughter was in trouble. She wasn't going to let them take her daughter the way they'd taken her son, no, not again.

Nicky finally boarded the airplane that would bring her to America. This was not going to end well unless they did something about it.

Sorry this took so long. I've had writers block. I'll make sure to make the next chapter longer. Thanks for reading!
