Nicky walked out of the building, not daring to look back. She knew what she'd chosen to do wasn't right, but it wasn't right to let her son die either. Jason was gone; she didn't know where her husband was. All she could do right now was to find her poor little girl, Jacie.
She wasn't sure where to look for her, but she knew that Jason most likely taught her some kind of survival skills. If anything, she'd be far away from here by now.
Nicky hurried down the sidewalk and made sure to blend in with the crowd until she was a safe distance away to make a better plan. Just as she began to think where Jacie might have gone, someone's head peaked around the corner of the alleyway she was in.
"Mom?"
"Jacie?" Nicky couldn't believe her eyes. The young girl threw herself into her mother's arms, tears beginning to pour down her face.
"Mom. I was so worried," she sobbed. "I'm... I'm scared."
Nicky held her daughter close and gently stroked her hair. "It's okay. You're safe now. We're going to get a car and drive far away from this place. Everything will be okay, you'll see."
"No... Jason's gone. Dad's gone," Jacie sniffled. "It's all my fault. They were after me, not them!"
Nicky made Jacie look her in the eyes. "Jacie, none of this was your fault. There's a lot you don't know about me and your father, and I wish I could tell you, but... I can't."
Jacie wiped the tears from her face. What was her mother talking about? Whatever it was, she knew they couldn't fix anything if they didn't get moving. She wanted to be tough, for Jason. Luckily, she'd known how to drive well enough to follow her mother all the way out here, but when they returned to the truck... it wasn't there anymore.
"Crap!" Jacie glared at the now blank space where the truck had been parked. "I knew I should have kept the keys with me!"
"It's okay," Nicky comforted, glancing around at the other vehicles. "We can get another car."
The brim of Jacie's eyes filled with tears. Now that Barry's truck was gone... the fact that Jason was gone too sunk in even deeper, and it was all her fault! But she tried to hide it, she had to be strong long enough to stop these people who took her father, brother, and Jason from her!
Jacie followed her mother through the crowds of people, blending in the way Jason had taught her to. Nicky was very cautious as she scouted out a car they could use, then she spotted a parking garage. That would have something useful.
Carefully crossing the street to the garage, Jacie looked around, hoping with all her heart she might see Jason somewhere... but there was no sign of him. Nicky, too, hoped to see him. After everything they'd been through together, after everything he'd been through, he couldn't be gone. Not now... not ever.
Just as they entered the large parking garage, an old fashioned, red truck pulled in. By Jacie's expression, Nicky was sure that was the missing truck. "Mom... it's Barry's truck!"
Nicky pulled her daughter behind a car and silently watched the truck pull into a parking space. They were most likely being followed... that meant that whoever stole the truck must be with the CIA.
She waited, and waited, but no one ever exited the vehicle. Maybe they were waiting for them to come? "I'm going to try and see who's in it," Nicky whispered, leading her daughter closer, but made her stay a safe distance away. "Stay here."
Jacie glared as her mother snuck up to the truck. She was sick of people thinking she couldn't handle herself. Well, she'd prove them wrong. Instead of staying put, she snuck up the other way, peaking up before her mother did.
