POEMS FROM INSIDE ME

BY: LEIF GREGERSEN

JULY 1, 2013 (CANADA DAY)

THESE ARE POEMS INSPIRED BY MY DAYS IN

EDMONTON

WRITTEN MOSTLY AS I LIVED IN BOYLE-MACCAULEY

THESE ARE ARTWORKS AND DON’T INTEND TO MAKE

CLAIMS

OR COMMENTS ON ANYONE LIVING OR DEAD

DEDICATED TO BEVERLY-ANNE GREGERSEN

1946-2009

I do love living here he said wiping a tear

Warmness surrounding hopes abounding

Turning me inside out

Seeking my shelter the humidity swelters

My heart beats to the rhythm of death

Home on the couch I stop and I crouch

Is that somebody looking at me?

I thought it was safer to simply not waiver

Stand my ground and see what will be

In this part of the city the street has no pity

For those of us trying to save

Don't walk home at night out of the light

Take a Limo it's cheaper than pain

I lived here in the Italy part of this city

And loved all the pizza and beer

But I've been here too long because things have gone wrong

But for me it's a matter of pride

I can't give up the food or be so incredibly rude

As to leave without saying goodbye

Is there a part of this world where wings can spread out

unfurled

And not boil freeze or be eaten?

I think I will stay for at least one more day

I'll find love if it rips out my heart

Poem Song

Looking out I'm looking in

Thinking love is such a sin

Thinking life was so much more

Before I stepped in through the door

Family now and kids to feed

Work until my fingers bleed

Taking days just piece by piece

The only one I love is my little niece

I thought you would be by my side

Did you take me for a ride

Looking out at days gone past

Happiness will never last

I'm not going to lie to you

Little child with a heart so new

Love will beat you 'till you fall

Make your friends and love them all

I will say just one more thing

Don't let them hit outside the ring

Looking out and looking in

Loving you was not a sin
