Looking Back at Days Gone By

The Years Have Not Passed For All of Us

I hate to admit that in my younger days

I looked for love and comfort in so many ways

I would approach any lovely female who seemed alone

And convince her she loved me so I could take her home

But now that time and troubles took all my looks away

I wish that I had learned to really love so I could say

I don’t need to take some stranger home

To fool myself into thinking I’m not alone

If I had not been such a total ass

And had showed just one special girl a little class

I could have had someone now to love and hold

Share some warmth with me when it gets cold

Some good friends have said it is not too late

That the biggest lie is to leave love up to fate

Go and find someone they say and treat them right

The time is now, spring is gone and the summer sun is bright

I just feel kind of guilty, kind of sad

How I treated so poorly the loves I once had

When the heart is young, new, and strong

It is so easy to think chances will keep coming along

So I say now to all those who have yet to love

Take your advice from God above

Be gentle, faithful, loyal, true

And love someone who loves only you

And don’t forget that if you can find that perfect one

The joys and pains are not yet done

If all is right and you are truly one from two

Children soon will make your loving hearts new
