Mother’s Day Poem For Beverly-Anne

On this special day please understand what it means

That without a great mom behind you, you won’t have your dreams

The very first Saint was Mother Mary they say

Turn this water to wine, my son, if you may

When I was young and hard-hearted I had no love

For Mary or Jesus or even God up above

But then my mom told me to my great surprise

God had always answered her prayers, and I knew she was wise

A few short years ago my mom breathed her last

At this time of year I often think of the past

How she tried to give us, my siblings and I

All the good and nice things that she had been denied

My mom kept house and sent us to Europe, and at home the best schools

But still when I was a teen I somehow thought parents were for fools

I loved her dearly though, inside I was very proud of my mom

She had worked so hard and stuck with us, more than I could have done

Then when I left the north country to live on the coast

I left behind friends and girlfriends but I missed my mom the most

I would walk blocks to the payphone each night I could

To call her collect and for a brief moment feel a bit good

I once told my mom that I knew enough people to live

She said it’s us that love you and will truthfully give

I didn’t see that family was truly a gift to me

I just wanted that feeling of being so free

There were so many little things that she did for all of us

And then we would forget her birthday and she wouldn’t fuss

I warn you each day with your loved ones could be the last

Don’t let a hard heart make all your chances go past

So many times now I will sit with nothing to do

And then I look at the phone and wish it weren’t true

That my mom has been gone now nearly five years

Even though I was with her as she let go of her last tears

On this one day I beg you call your mom, send a card

Order some flowers, it isn’t that hard

She brought you into this world, she stayed by your side

Resentments can kill you, just swallow your pride

This is the one day we really have to wake up and face

Our mothers are the people that no one could ever replace

You can be a son or a daughter without having to learn

That being a mom is something that you must earn
