The ride up to the top floor was a long one. Occasionally, the elevator would stop and pick someone up before continuing on its way. Every new arrival gave Kagami a strange look when they saw him in the elevator. None of the additional passengers were following him to the top floor though. They all seemed surprised when they got off the elevator before Kagami did.
Kagami did his best to ignore all of them and to relax before reaching the top floor. At best, Kagami had a few minutes of solitude before being confronted with Aomine himself. He took deep breaths, reread the interview questions Kuroko had written down for him, he should be fine. But when the elevator doors opened, he was still so nervous, he was practically shaking.
It took him a minute to make his feet move. He tried to leave the elevator, but he'd taken so long that the elevator doors nearly closed on him. His foot got trapped between the doors sliding shut. It was only for a moment, the doors soon opened and released his foot. But it was still enough for Kagami to lose balance for a second and stumble into the waiting room. He knew this was not a good start. His face was already tomato red from embarrassment.
There really wasn't anything else on the floor, just the room between the elevator and Aomine's office. The room felt so pristine, the walls were white, there were hardly any chairs. The most notable thing was a desk by the white double doors with a woman with long, pink hair sitting behind it.
Kagami cleared his throat, still standing by the elevator. Maybe he'd been lucky and she hadn't noticed his stumbling out of the elevator. Or maybe she was too polite to say anything. Either way, she looked up when Kagami cleared his throat. She stood up, walking around her desk, "You must be Kagami-san. Please, come in."
He nodded, but it still took him a moment before he could actually make his feet move. He didn't mean to seem rude, he just couldn't get over his nerves. He swallowed, his mouth suddenly feeling dry. "I-I'm Kagami Taiga, nice to meet you."
"Momoi Satsuki, Aomine's administrative assistant," she smiled at him, gesturing to one of the very stiff looking white chairs, "Please, have a seat. I'll see if Aomine is ready for you."
Kagami nodded again, moving to the seat Momoi had gestured to. "Thank you for setting up this time." He wasn't sure if he should've said anything, it just felt right to thank her.
"Of course, it was no trouble," Momoi smiled at him. She didn't say anything else, she just went back to her desk and picked up the phone. After waiting a minute, she said, "Dai-chan, your 2 o'clock is here." She paused while Kagami assumed Aomine spoke. He couldn't help noticing how she called him by a nickname. "Yes, the interview with the university student." She paused longer this time, her brow furrowing and expression darkening a little as she listened to Aomine. She hissed quietly, "Now how would that look? Dai-chan, you promised." There was long pause and she started to smile again before finally putting the phone down.
She got up, walking over to Kagami. All Kagami could do was look up at her. She smiled, "Aomine-san will see you now."
[an: I hope you're liking it so far! Next update should be the interview or at least part of it ;) though this story is being entered into my queue and will be updated on a roughly weekly basis!]
