"Most people don't bother understand my preferences, they just run from them."
Aomine's words caught Kagami off guard. Did he come off like he wasn't bothering to understand Aomine? He didn't really mean to come off that way. He just didn't see what could possibly come of spending time with Aomine.
He looked down at his drink, refusing to make eye contact with Aomine. "And what about you? Did you not believe me when I said that classes take up my time?"
"They can't take up all your time."
"It does for me. Studying languages and literature, it's all I have. I don't even have career prospects except for teaching." His voice came out quietly, but he was sure that Aomine had heard him. But now Aomine wasn't saying anything anymore. Kagami knew that this little fantasy was over. He wasn't exactly a prize.
He stood up. "I should probably get going."
Aomine reached inside his suit jacket and pulled a business card out. He held it between his index and middle fingers as he handed it to Kagami. "Let me know when those photos are ready. I'd like to see them before you use them."
Kagami nodded, taking the business card and putting it into his pocket without even looking at it. "Of course. Thank you for meeting with us today. I won't take up anymore of your time."
He didn't wait for Aomine to say anything else. He took his strawberry Frappuccino and walked out of the cafe. Why did he feel like he was being toyed with by everyone? He knew Kuroko set this up on purpose and now Aomine seemed to want to mess with him. He didn't like it.
He made it back to the hotel lobby where he left Kise and Kuroko. Luckily, they were still there, putting away the last of their camera equipment. Kuroko noticed him first. "Kagami-kun, I thought you would be gone longer. Where's Aomine-san?"
"I had to go." He walked up to them, picking up one of the big camera bags from Kuroko who obviously couldn't carry it. "We're done here, right? Let's leave. He might come back."
Kise and Kuroko looked at each other. Kise picked up the rest of his equipment. They all walked out of the hotel and headed back for Kagami's and Kuroko's apartment.
[AN: sorry this update took so long! the usual, got busy, got tired, etcetera... but I will be finishing this story, I promise! I'm slowly working through the 50 shades plot, so we'll get there and get some spicy action soon, I promise!]
