Jared had been getting bullied for sometime now. Six years to be exact. It's been happening ever since he came out as homosexual in seventh grade.

It was mostly just the football players that bullied him, but some of the basketball players and cheerleaders did as well.

He never told anyone because he already thought he was pathetic enough. He especially thought that Evan would think he's weak and vulnerable because he couldn't defend himself.

One day Jared had arranged to meet with Evan to work on a project for world history (uGh).

Jared was waiting for his anxious friend when suddenly someone jerked his backpack back, taking Jared with it and dragged him behind a wall.

When Jared looked up, he saw various football players along with the point guard and a couple cheerleaders. They were looming like dark clouds above him. He shut his eyes as insults, punches, and kicks were thrown at the broken boy.

Jared curled up in a ball as a high heel with dug into his side painfully. He felt tears flow freely out of his eyes.

"Awe look at that!"
"Jared's going to cry and whine!"
"You don't deserve to live!"
"Loser! You're gonna die alone!"
"Why not kill yourself?!"
"Boo hoo"
"You pathetic nerd!"
"Four eyes!"
"Homo!"
"Homo!"
"Homo!"
"Go on and bitch and moan!"
"You don't deserve to dream!"
"You're gonna die alone!"

The insults continued, mixing with Jared's own self deprecating thoughts as they took turns beating him.

"Go eat a bathbomb Kleinman!"
Someone taunted.

Suddenly a loud noise boomed through,
"HEY!"

Everyone looked at the source of the noise, except for Jared who was still in a ball trying to become nonexistent.

When they saw who it was, their faces showed shock. Evan Hansen, the quiet attention avoiding, anxiety ridden, polite boy had just yelled at them.

Evan spoke again,
"What gives you the right to bully my friend?!"

Evan continued, pointing an angry finger at the jocks,
"Y'all are high school has-beens waiting to happen. Future employees at McDonald's."

The quarterback approached Evan with his signature 'jock-swagger' and got close. Evan didn't even flinch.

"You have a zit right there"
He places his index finger on Evan's forehead, pushing him back, causing Evan to stumble.

Evan looked absolutely infuriated. He stormed over to the quarterback and pointed at his face.
"Well you have one right there, jackass!"

Evan giggled, pulling his hand back, placing it on his hip.
"Oh wait my bad, that's just your ugly ass face, ya turd."

The quarterback's face turned red with fury and he punched Evan in the stomach. Coincidentally, at that very moment Mr. Washington came out of the building and saw it happen. He saw the injured Evan and Jared. He sent the popular jerks to the principal's office for their punishment.

He walked over to the two boys and told Evan, who was holding Jared, to take the smoller boy home, for his injuries were bad and plentiful.

Evan complied and took Jared to the latter's home. Jared's parents were on a business trip somewhere.

Once they got home and tended to their injuries, they shared a very long silence.
Jared broke it,

"Why Ev,"
His voice sounded small.

"Huh?"
Evan questioned.

"Why'd you save me, you got hurt because of me."
Jared waved his hands around to emphasize his point.

"Psh, you're one to talk"
Evan rolled his eyes.

"That's different!"
Jared argued.

"How? How is it different, Jay?!"
Evan sassily placed his hands on his hips.

"I'm used to it..."
Tears pricked Jared's eyes,
"plus, I deserve every bit of it. I'm pathetic, I'm useless, I'm a failure, I'm a homo-"

"STOP!"
Jared looked up at Evan as he cut him off.

"Just stop it! Stop saying those things! They aren't true! You're amazing, kind, beautiful, and perfect in my eyes. You deserve so much better than that."

Evan saw the tears run down Jared's face, not that Evan wasn't crying too.

"How... how long has this been happening?"
Evan asked, concerned.

Jared shrugged,
"Since like, grade seven, it's really not a big deal"

Evan immediately squeezed Jared in a bone crushing hug, which honestly kinda hurt Jared a little.

"Hey Ev, this kinda h-"
Jared was cut off by Evan's lips on his. He wasn't sure what was happening, but he went along with it, kissing back.

They stayed like that until they needed to breathe. Stupid lungs, always needing oxygen.

"Well shit Evan, I love you too"
Jared smiled.

"DON'T CURSE, JARED! IT'S BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" (Said Evan in literally every deh fanfic ever despite him cursing in the musical)
Evan screeched.

So yeah, everything ended up fine in the end and the bullies ended up getting suspended. That month will be a great one for the new boyfriends.
