chapter 2

Baekhyun had a very interesting way of questioning. He didn't even try to be mindful, he didn't even seem to have any sympathy at all. His dark eyes were as cold as ice when he was looking at the woman that was the wife of our latest victim and I often had to jump in and apologise in his name when he said something too offensive.

We managed to figure out that the man that was murdered worked in the same company that sold electronic as the other two. He didn't have any children and the wife insisted he didn't have any enemies. We were hoping that she was going to be able to give us the description of the man that came in to her house with her husband, but she didn't see his face before he hit her on the back of the head. After she woke up there was a dead body in the bedroom and the killer was already gone. 

Her head was wrapped in bandages, she was sitting on her bed and trying to give as detailed answers as possible. I was sitting on one of the chairs in the hospital room, while Baekhyun was standing in front of her and looking at her with a serious expression on his face. She was just describing to him how her husband recently got a promotion at work, when my eyes wandered around the room. I was starting to get quite frustrated, because the questioning of the woman went a similar way as the previous questioning of the relatives of the other victims. It was going nowhere.

All of the sudden my eyes stopped on the flowers that were placed on the nightstand of the woman.

White lilies.

Why was there something bothering me about these white lilies? 

'' Who left these flowers? '' I spoke up and interrupted Baekhyun, who was just asking the woman another question.

The investigator narrowed his eyes and glared at me with annoyance, then he noticed the confused look on the woman's face and realised that I was on to something. The lady gazed at the bouquet and frowned. '' I'm not sure. They were already here when I woke up. Perhaps one of my relatives visited me. ''

'' White lilies symbolise purity, innocence, new birth and new life. They are common funeral flowers, '' Baekhyun thoughtfully murmured, gazed towards me and raised an eyebrow. 

I kept staring intently at the bouquet. It took me a few moments, but then I suddenly realised why the sight of it bothered me. My eyes widened in realisation, I jumped on my feet and said: '' There was a very similar bouquet at the funeral of our first victim, except that it was made of six lilies. I remember there were lily petals near the second crime scene and now... ''

'' Lilies again, only that there's four of them in this bouquet. Our killer is planning to murder three more people, '' Baekhyun voiced my thoughts out loud, took a step towards me and stared in to my shining eyes. '' A job promotion. It must be because of the job promotion. If the other two victims were about to get a job promotion, then-  ''

'' We found our connection between the murders! '' I happily finished his sentence and triumphantly grinned. 

I was looking in to his dark eyes until the woman sitting on the hospital bed spoke up again: '' Do you two always finish your sentences like this? ''

'' No, but I'm excited to finally have someone that gets me, '' I replied and chuckled. '' I'll call the others and tell them to look in to it. I'll also go ask at the reception desk to see if they know who delivered these flowers. ''

I smiled and winked at the slightly startled investigator and walked out of the hospital room. The people at the reception desk said that the flowers were delivered by a florist and I made sure to get the name of the company before I stepped out of the building and pulled my phone from my pocket. I called Sehun and Jongdae and told them to ask the relatives of the first two victims if they had a job promotion in store for them in the future. Then I phoned Yixing, who was back at the police station and asked if he could look in to the flower company that delivered the lilies to the hospital where I was at and figure out who ordered them.
