chapter 8

'' Is this really necessary? '' I yelled out of my bathroom stall, struggling to zip up my dress.

'' For once, I agree with her, '' Baekhyun spoke up from the stall next to mine. '' This is stupid. ''

'' Oh shut up, you two. It's necessary that you two go undercover and investigate our suspect. If it's really her that's responsible for the murder, we have to get some clear and solid evidence. Otherwise her lawyers will definitely be able to bail her out, '' Xiumin, who was standing outside replied and started impatiently tapping with his foot against the ground. '' Are you two done or not? You are going to be late if you don't hurry up. ''

I put on my high heels and Baekhyun and I simultaneously opened the doors of our bathroom stalls. Xiumin, Sehun, Jongdae and Hye-rin, who were standing outside and waiting gasped and stared at us with shock. They seemed really surprised and I wondered if it was because we looked so bad or so good. I personally wasn't too confident about my look and I didn't think Hye-rin's black dress and heels looked as great on me as they did on her, but I had to do it to get to the bottom of the murder we've been investigating lately.

It was the death of a rich man and those were always my least favourite cases to investigate. There was always drama, lawyers and a lot of screaming when something like that happened in the wealthy circles of Seoul and this time it wasn't any different. A very famous fashion store owner was found dead during a party that he threw at his own mansion. He was strangled and Hye-rin said that all evidence pointed to the crime being done by a woman. After some more investigating, all leads pointed to one one else than his own wife. 

'' I really hope it's not her, '' Hye-rin thoughtfully spoke up and smirked. '' She is my idol, ever since I heard how much money she got from her past three divorces. This is how I aspire to be too. ''

'' She got even more money after this guy's death. He left her everything, which is really strange considering that he has two other kids from his past marriage, '' Jongdae spoke up and looked at Xiumin with wide eyes.

The team leader nodded and said: '' That's their job for tonight. These people would never speak to cops, but if they trick them, then perhaps they'll be able to find out something. ''

We've been having quite some problems in the past few days. These rich people didn't want to say anything, their lawyers kept shutting all of our questions down and the investigation was going nowhere. That was why Xiumin and I decided it was the best for us to go undercover. Baekhyun and I were going to one of their parties tonight and his job was to speak with the woman that confirmed the alibi of the murderer's wife and get her to confess that it wasn't true, while I was supposed to find out more about our suspect's personal lawyer and how good he was at forging documents.  

'' Why do I have to do this? '' I asked and inspected myself in the bathroom mirror in front of me. I really wasn't used to seeing myself in a dress. '' Isn't Hye-rin the one in our team that has a specialty for conning men? ''

Hye-rin smirked and said: '' That's true, but I can't do it. There's a risk I'd run in to one of my ex boyfriends at the party. ''

'' Hajin-ah, make sure not to get drunk at the party and Baekhyun... '' Xiumin ordered before pausing and looking at the other investigator with a thoughtful expression on his face.

Baekhyun's face stayed blank. '' Don't worry, I don't have a drinking problem like she does. I'll keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't get too many of the free cocktails. ''

I ignored the snickering of my coworkers and adjusted my hairstyle in the mirror. Then I slowly took a few steps back, but I wasn't used to walking in heels, so I quickly found myself losing my balance. My eyes slightly widened with surprise when I found myself falling, but Baekhyun quickly managed to catch me. I looked up towards him, even more handsome than usually with his dark hair slicked back and an amused smirk on his face. '' These heels are not quite like the old trainers you usually wear, huh? ''
