chapter 9

I jumped out of Baekhyun's yellow Lamborghini and ran after him. I smiled and waved at one of the police officers standing at the entrance of the apartment building ahead of us. Baekhyun just frowned and glared in his direction before lifting the yellow police tape to go under it. I thought he was going to hold it up for me too, but he let it go, making it smack me right in the face. I stumbled back with surprise, rubbed my hurt nose and quickly rushed after Baekhyun, who didn't even bother to glance over his shoulder and continued taking fast steps inside the building.

We found the contract killer that was working for the dead lawyer Jihoon and the rich cunning widow Eun Chaewon. There was only one problem. After Sehun and Jongdae kicked the door of her apartment down and rushed in, they found her dead.

The woman that killed for money lived in a basement apartment of some creepy looking building that had bullet holes in the walls and prison bars on the lowest window. At first I was slightly confused, because I knew that if he worked for rich people she had to have enough money for a decent home, but I quickly realised that it was just a cover. After walking down some squeaky stairs and going to the end of a hallway that was left in darkness because of the light on the ceiling that didn't work, we found ourselves in an extremely expensively decorated home. On the outside it fit right in the dangerous neighbourhood, but on the inside there were leather couches, marble counters and diamond chandelier.

'' Looks like our killer had a secret passion for interior design, '' Baekhyun said, looking around with a serious expression on his face. '' Considering the mold and bullet holes on the outside walls, I expected this place to look much different. ''

I grinned and replied: '' I think she was trying to deliver the message that it's what on the inside that matters. ''

Sehun, Jongdae and Hye-rin, who were already here gave us a brief explanation of what happened. I thought that somebody killed her when they first called and told us to get here, but it turned out that it was the woman that committed suicide. She shot herself in the head right in the middle of the kitchen. 

'' We already found the gun she used on the night of the party and some other things that connect us to our widow. There's her phone with text messages that I'm sure would trace back to her and a picture of the victim that's covered with fingerprints... I think that'll be enough to brake her and get her to confess, '' Sehun tiredly said and looked at the notepad in his hands. 

Jongdae nodded and added: '' I'm pretty sure our suspicions were correct and she was going to kill the lawyer and Eun Chaewon cause they didn't complete their end of the deal and give her the money that they owed her. It's a simple as that. ''

'' Case closed! '' Hye-rin happily cheered. She was kneeling next to the dead body of the woman and conducting some examinations before she would take her to her laboratory. She was showing her back to us and I was trying not to look in her direction, because it wasn't a very pretty sight. '' Our killer is dead and we have the evidence to connect her to the victim's wife. Case closed! Fucking finally! ''

Baekhyun frowned and strolled around the apartment. His eyebrows were furrowed in thought and he didn't seem to be happy with the outcome. '' Case not closed. Why would the contract killer end her life? ''

Sehun stomped his foot against the ground and whined: '' Why can't you just let it go? Perhaps she was depressed because she didn't chose a better job. ''

'' She was a contract killer and a quite good one. There was no reason for her to kill herself. There has to be something more to the story, '' Baekhyun murmured and stopped by a chest of drawer that she kept in the living room. He thoughtfully observed the minimal decorations on top. Then he ran his finger over the wood and lifted it in the air again. Everyone saw the dust that was covering it now.
