"i'll miss you dad.," nez said softly in her native tongue as she hugged her father tightly. it was such a heartbreaking moment for her, parting ways with her father, the man who'd been there all her life.

"i'll miss you too." her father aamir kissed her forehead, bidding her a farewell with a wave of his hand.

nez couldn't help, but look over her shoulder as she neared the gate. her father was still there, watching as his daughter pulled all of her luggage behind her. she could see the sad look behind his eyes, the pain that swarmed them. it hurt her to see him like that. but she knew it would be for the better.

a buzz at her pocket caused her to tear her gaze from her father, indicating an incoming text message.

xavier anthony
hey sis, have a great 9 hour flight. if you make stops in other states, make sure you stretch your legs. and stay hydrated too. i'll be here to pick you up. love you

another buzz.

xavier anthony
it's xavier btw

nez couldn't help but smile at her brother's comical great timing. she typed out a reply before setting her phone in airplane mode, knowing the pilot would ask anyway.

from: hennezy abia
thanks broski. i'll see you soon. safe travels (:

hennezy was going to miss america. a lot actually. she knew norway would be extremely different than altanta. but atlanta was completely different from cairo too.

she couldn't even imagine how many things would be different. the schools, the people... god, she barely knew the language, remembering only a few of the most common phrases like "nei" and "drittsekk".

nez pushed her luggage in the compartment over her seat. unzipping her backpack that was placed against her knee, she pulled out a sleeping mask, resting it on her forehead before placing a pillow around her neck. she had headphones over her head, playing michael jackson's greatest hits (one of the selections from the plane) to calm her nerves.

her arms covered the armrests, fingers tapping on them nervously. she felt her inner-child take over her thoughts as her chest tightened with anxiety. tears brimmed her eyes and her leg couldn't stop shaking. she really did not want to be on a plane. she wanted to go home. she wanted her father. she wished she could just skedaddle off the plane into her father's arms and waste a $700 plane ticket. she knew she couldn't. her father had probably left anyway. and she couldn't call xavier until she was in the air, which is pointless, considering she'd be asleep then. sleep.

swiping her cheeks to clear her tears, nez inhaled deeply, counting to three (tapping on the armrest under her) before exhaling. she reached over and shut the window next to her, knowing the sight of the outside would scare her even more. she didn't even hesitate to pull the mask over her eyes, leaning back in her seat as she let out an sigh of relief.

sleep was definitely what she needed.

"ladies and gentlemen- and those who don't define as either one of those, this is your pilot speaking." a voice rang through the speakers. since nez was listening to the music that the plane had provided of course, she was forced out of her slumber.

slipping up her mask onto her forehead, she realized she slept through the entire flight. "we will be arriving in oslo shortly. we hope you enjoyed your flight. safe travels everyone."

the other woman in nez's section cleared her throat. the woman straightened her back.

"you might want to put your table up." she commented quickly, not looking at the teenage girl.
