I was quite surprised to see my mum when I skipped down the stairs with an unnatural grin on my face. She wasn't supposed to be back until the next morning.

"Heading out?"

Mum called out from the couch. She looked tired so I was surprised she actually registered my presence.

"Yeah, going for a movie..."

I went and stood before her taking in her appearance as she did mine.

"Aren't you a little too dressed up for a movie?"

She glanced at my salmon colored dress. It was nothing special but I hardly ever wore it because I felt the strappy back attracted too much attention. It wasn't revealing but not really my kind.

"Umm not really... This is a normal dress, mum."

Mum raised her eyebrows and then there came the stale sense of humor.

"Am I going to have to have a talk with you and Aaron?"

"This joke's kinda getting old, mum. And stop hinting such things... Aaron gets really, really uncomfortable. I'm heading out now, but you go get some rest."

She let out a sigh. She did look super worn out.

"Can you grow up a little quicker? I really wanna retire now..."

I chuckled pushing her towards her room and when I knew she was good I walked out the door to find Zach already waiting for me. He was wearing yellow today bringing out the green in his eyes. I could make a game out of this. I headed towards the car and he pulled the door open for me. Looked like this first date was worth the wait.
With my newsletter work and his practices we had been struggling to find time for our long awaited first date. This was possibly our last chance considering starting Monday, that was two days, their practices were gonna get crazy hectic. Aaron was pretty serious about his captaincy.
We were keeping it simple, a movie and then maybe dinner. We were some 10 minutes away from the cinema when I noticed Aaron's car a little behind us. Aaron had known my plan, but didn't know about the changed timing. Sure he wasn't happy with me dating Zach but he wouldn't go out of his way to ruin it would he? I decided to let it be and focus on my conversation with Zach.

"So what movie are we watching?"

"I don't know. You'll find out."

I was starting to realize that this was how Zach functioned and I was never going to know in advance what I was in for.
We reached the theater and Zach parked in the nearest spot. That's when I saw Aaron's car pull into the parking lot as well. He parked a few spots away from us and I held Zach's hand to stop him from getting out of the car. Zach followed my line of vision and noticed Aaron get out of his car.
He looked at me with confusion.

"Urm... This is a date date right? Or are we doing the hanging out with friends thing?"

"Date! Definitely a date! I don't know what he's doing here..."

I spluttered, utter confusion etched on my face. I looked back towards Aaron and I was so not prepared for what I saw next.
You've got to be kidding me!
