Jacob and Ashley ^
"Allow your passion to become your purpose and it will one day become your profession."
The drive back home from Coney Island was fun. Rohit and Elena went together in Derek's car and the rest of us were in the other one. Even though we were tired, we kept on singing country songs and cracking stupid jokes. We had dinner at a small fast food joint on our way back.
I bid everyone goodbye once we were outside my appartment.
Rohit gave us the next day off as were drained out. I swear he's the coolest boss ever! It can even be because he has a thing for Elena. The way he cares about her, looks at her and understands her; its obvious that he too likes her.The entire day of thrill, drama and excitement had gotten me exhausted and I fell asleep the minute I got into covers.
The following day I woke up with the sound of my phone ringing.
Dad.
Why is he calling? Not that I'm not happy about it but its always mom checking up on me. He has never bothered to initiate a conversation in three years."Hello." My dad spoke.
"Hey dad."
"What are you doing?"
"I just woke up. How is mom?"
"She's fine. You found any job?"
"Yes. Umm I work as a cashier at a small café." I mentioned with hesitation.
"You what? We sent you to NYU to major in finance and take up a job in some corporate company and not to work as a cashier in some silly café." he shouted angrily.
"I gave interviews for quite a few firms and they rejected me. The list of bills was increasing so I took up a job as a cashier." I explained.
"Come back to Dubai."
"No."
"Yes."
"I'm not coming back there." I sternly mentioned.
"You will. If you don't find a job in two months then I'll see to it that you are back home." and with that he hung up on me.
I should've guessed that he'll be calling for something like this. Now we don't want our Ashley to spoil the reputation of the family by working as a cashier right?
My dad is one of the top industrialists in Dubai. Thats one reason why he never let me take up a job during the time I was studying in NYU. He wanted me to only focus on my studies and sent me money every alternate months. After graduation, I stopped accepting any more money from him and decided to take up a job so that I wouldn't have to move back to Dubai.
My life here has changed drastically now. I actually have friends to hang out with, places to visit with them and a job. No matter what Dad says I'm not moving back. I'm an adult and absoultely capable of making my own decisions.
Urgh. Thankyou Dad for a crappy start to my day.
After going for a run and taking a quick shower, I started munching on the pizza I ordered to make my day a little better. Picking up a slice, Victoria's words crossed my mind. "You can try fashion blogging."
It surely doesn't seem like a bad idea. I'm desperate enough to give it a try. I just know what to do. Picking up my phone, I called up Derek.
