Chapter Nineteen - Gone
Wes's POV (yay something different)
"Austin, I'm dating your sister."
As soon as I said it, I regretted it. Maybe it was because I could've said it at least a little nicer, or act a little sorry for my actions and not just throw it out there at him.
Or maybe it was because of the pain I felt after his fist flew into my nose.
"Austin, what the fuck?!" I heard Chloe scream at him.
"Babe, calm down," I said quietly, reaching out to touch her arm.
"Don't touch her," Austin said angrily.
"Would you calm the fuck down and let him talk before you break his nose?" Chloe spat back.
"I don't want to hear anything he is going to say," Austin said glowering at me.
"Just let us explain!" Chloe yelled.
"No!"
"Austin, please!" Chloe begged.
"No, you listen to me, ok?"
"If you're not going listen, why should I?" Chloe said raising her voice again.
"Guys, please stop," I said surprised at how pleading my voice sounded. Chloe looked at me sadly and stood up, walking over to me and putting an arm around my torso. Austin didn't take it any better though and this time his fist landed on my mouth, making me spin around and fall down on my stomach on the hard, cold floor.
"Stop hurting him!" Chloe screamed, pushing Austin's chest back. She knelt by me and I saw tear stains on her cheeks.
"I'm not the one who's going to end up hurt here!" Austin yelled. Chloe helped me sit halfway up, resting all my weight on my elbow.
"What are you talking about?" Chloe asked angrily, not making eye contact with him.
"Why don't you ask your lovely boyfriend here," Austin said glaring at me. Chloe looked at me with confusion.
"Austin-"
"No Chloe, you really need to listen right now," Austin said. "I'd actually be fine with you and Wes dating if-"
"No you wouldn't, you'd be a dick about it no matter what!" Chloe yelled.
"Just shut up and listen!" Austin yelled back. Chloe looked like she was about to explode.
"Wes was the biggest player in school," he said matter of factly. Chloe's expression changed in an instant, from anger to shocked.
"Austin," I almost croaked out.
"You know what he would do?" He said sternly, jabbing a finger in my direction and almost talking to me. "He would have a different girl over almost every single night." Now Chloe just had tears pouring down her face. This surprised me, she didn't seem like the crying type to me.
"And then he would leave and it'd be all over," he added. Chloe squeezed her eyes shut and covered her ears.
"He'd leave them broken hearted and confused and crushed," Austin says. Chloe started shaking her head while he talked.
"Austin," I tried.
"No, she needs to know the truth about you," he said.
"Austin, stop," I said more sternly. He got the message and looked over at Chloe who was still covering her ears. I reached out to touch her and she flinched, opening her eyes and leaning away from me.
"Chloe-"
"Please, just don't," she begged.
"I can explain-"
"I think I've heard enough explanations for now," she said, and with that she stood up to leave. But instead of leaving she came back with a damp towel. She started lightly patting it on my lip and wherever there was blood on my face. She refused to make eye contact with me but I stared into her eyes the whole time. When she pulled away she kissed my cheek lightly before standing up again. I heard the front door close ad turned back to Austin who looked extremely regretful, which he should.
"I hope you're happy," I said harshly before walking upstairs. I slammed my door and grabbed the first thing my hand found, a glass cup, and chucked it as hard as I could to the wall on the other side of my room, watching as it shattered.
