Chapter Seven - Luke and Layla
Chloe's POV
I woke up with the sun shining bright through the windows and groaned. When was Austin going to get blinds? I instinctively sat upright and got ready to bolt to the bathroom, but the sick feeling never came. I smiled and headed for the shower.
I blow dried as straightened my hair, did my usual makeup and put on some dark wash skinny jeans that were cuffed at the bottom, a bra and cami, a light faded purple zip up sweatshirt and my black Vans after looking at the weather. I walked downstairs and found Austin making breakfast.
"You're here," I said sarcastically surprised.
"Chloe, I need to talk to you," he said seriously.
"About what?" I asked sitting down. he sighed and sat down in front of me.
"Eat your breakfast first," he said pushing a bowl of cereal to me. I gave him a funny look but are my cereal anyways.
"Alright, tell me already," I said when I was done.
"Please let me say the whole story first, you can't just freak out and walk away," he warned.
"Can you just tell me?"
"Alright, listen up."
"You left your phone down here last night. It went off right before I went up for bed. I grabbed it and was going to just set it in your room when I saw what the text said," he said looking dawn at the table.
"Well what did it say?" I asked impatiently. Austin sighed again.
"Chlo, Luke and Layla were killed last night in a car accident."
I froze. I just stared at Austin like he was a 3 eyed alien. He looked at me sadly. I felt my hands starting to shake and the feeling of a hole being slowly duh out of my chest. My best friends were gone, never to come back again.
I started to get up but Austin stopped me.
"Chloe no, you promised you'd listen to the whole story," he said. I nodded once, staring off into space while he continued.
"Luke was driving them home from a party. He wasn't drunk, neither was Layla. There was a dog that ran out into the middle of the street and he swerved to not hit it, crashing right into a stop sign. Luke died on impact, Layla lost too much blood at the hospital," he said sadly. I felt the burning feeling of tears threatening to pour over.
"I'm sorry sis," Austin whispered before getting up and walking up to his room.
I sat there for a good 15 minutes, staring at the kitchen table. I didn't cry, tears just freely fell down my face and into the table. Eventually I tried to stand but my knees gave out and I tripped. I stumbled back up and tried rubbing out the door. I walked down streets, past houses, down alleyways. I had no idea where I was when I stopped. It was in a dark alley and I just sat down, leaning up against the wall. The tears started again but this time I did cry. I hugged my knees to my chest and sobbed into my arms.
"Chloe?"
I looked up and found Keaton standing at the end of the alleyway. He started rubbing towards me and kneeled down next to me.
"Chloe, what's wrong? What happened?" He asked frantically. i couldn't respond. I wasn't crying, just sitting there numbly.
"Chloe answer me!" Keaton yelled.
"L-L-L-Luke," I tried.
"Who's Luke? What are you talking about?" Keaton tried again. I just shook my head shakily.
