After peddling all the way home, barely making the curfew, Holly saw that the small, cramped apartment was empty. Frankly, she didn't know if she would rather her mother be home or not. When she was home it's not like there was much of a difference.

Her night consisted of eating a dinner of a sandwich, Pringles chips and the last bottle of Coke. She sat on her living room couch, watching Full House re-runs, snuggled in a blanket as she ate.

She giggled at the mess the Tanner children got into on the television show. The issues of the family seemed so trivial, yet Holly longed for those instead of her own. Her mom was a sad excuse of a mother figure. When she was home and not out getting loaded up on drugs, she was accompanied by strange men.

Holly was ashamed of her mother. Getting them kicked out of their home in Atlanta for not paying the house bills. The woman had the money, she was just lazy and 'preoccupied'. In Derry, Holly wouldn't make the mistake of letting her mother handle the finances. The bills, just like every other task and chore fell on her shoulders.

Holly soon after found herself laying on her back on her small bed. She stared at the ceiling, trying to sleep. Sleep didn't come easy that night. The memories and thoughts of the day loomed over her head like a dark storm cloud. And all storm clouds reached a point when they let the rain fall. Holly was no different.

At first, she tried to stop the tears from clouding her vision and suppress the sobs with a hand pressed to her mouth. As a minute passed by, she could no longer contain the sobs and tears. Her body shook as she turned to her side in a fetal position.

Her door swung open to reveal her barely clothed mom.

"Shut it!" The woman whispered harshly at her daughter who propped herself up on her elbows. Mrs.Cooper pulled her sheer robe over herself.

"Sorry. I didn't know you got home." Holly choked out.

"Yeah, and I have a client, so quiet!" She explained, slamming the girl's door closed.

Holly fell back on her bed, the pillow previously propped against her headboard fell onto her face. With a sigh, she threw the pillow across the room and sat up. Her sobbing made her thirsty.

She left her room and went down the hall, into her kitchen. Opening the fridge, she saw few options. Grabbing the milk carton, she felt nothing inside sloshing around.

"Nice, leave an empty container." She thought. Her mother never was tidy. The grape juice was the same, along with the orange juice.

"She must've had lots of customers while I was at school." Holly muttered under her breath. She grabbed the only drink available which happened to be beer. Closing the fridge, she retreated back to her room.

She opened the window in her room, leading to the fire escape. Climbing out of the window, she sat with her legs dangling off the fire escape. After only a few swigs of the drink a voice caught her attention.

"Holly?" A voice above her said. Holly looked above her and saw none other than Beverly Marsh, sitting on the level above her. She had a book in her hands and a burning cigarette between her fingers.

"Beverly? I knew you lived her but I didn't know you where this close." The girl laughed as the other made her way down the stairs quietly.

"Me neither." She plopped herself down beside Holly. Holly took a drink from her bottle and made a disgusted noise when she swallowed the foul liquid.

"Switch?" Beverly laughed, holding her cigarette up.

"Yes please." Holly said, taking the cigarette and handing over the beer bottle. She took a drag of the cigarette and breathed the smoke out through her nose.

Beverly lifted the bottle to her lips, taking a large drink. After forcing the beer down, she made a noise much like the one Holly previously made, only louder. The girls laughed and a light from an apartment below them turned on.

Both girls turned to each other, mouths and eyes wide.

"Shh!" Holly quieted a laughing Beverly, only to end up laughing herself. Both girls pulled their legs away from the edge, holding hands to their mouths to stifle their giggles.

Once the light turned off, they removed their hands and smiled remained. Despite only meeting earlier that day, both girls enjoyed each other's company.

"I hate this stuff." Beverly confessed, setting the bottle down on the metal flooring. Holly took one last drag on the cigarette before handing it back to Beverly.

"Me too." Holly snickered. The next few moments where silence as Beverly finished the cigarette, rubbing the end on the railing to put it out. She flicked it onto the ground below them. Holly's eyes followed the cigarette fall the three stories before hitting the ground.

"The rumors aren't real you know." Beverly said, her eyes trained on the trees in front of them, swaying in the warm summer breeze.

"What?" Holly questioned turning to the girl.

"From the bathroom at school. Greta doesn't know what she's talking about. I've only kissed one boy and that was third grade." Beverly confessed. She felt oddly comfortable around the brunette.

"I figured. I wouldn't put it past that bitch to make it all up to entertain her psychotic self." Holly shrugged her shoulders as she told Beverly.

"Actually it was Henry."

"And I thought it wasn't humanly possible to hate a person anymore than I already do." She shook her head at the thought of the disgusting boy.

Over the next few hours, the girls talked about the most unrelated topics. From nail polish to where they want to be in ten years, the girls got along amazingly. They eventually said their goodbyes as their eyes got heavy.
