"What?"
"The baby's coming!" Carrie yelled at him.
Harrison struggled to sit up. "What do I do!?"
"Help me have this baby!" She told him.
Hearing that suddenly spurred Harrison into action. Their daughter was coming. Now. And she didn't plan on making her arrival easy for her parents.
He slid his arms under Carrie's arms and legs and carefully picked her up and carried her into the bathroom. As they entered the bathroom, Harrison heard the loudest and most painful scream to ever come out of her.
Harrison looked down at Carrie as he kicked the shower door open with a loud bang. The pain was so bad she was actually crying. He kissed her forehead gently before setting her down on the ledge in their shower. "You can do this."
"I don't know if I can do this Harrison."
His hazel eyes stared straight into hers for a few moments. "Yes you can. In a few minutes we'll get to meet our daughter."
He quickly pulled his shirt over his head and undressed Carrie. "I don't know what I'm doing," he mumbled.
She managed a smile and a slight laugh. "Me either."
This was one of those times he just had to ask, why now? Their baby girl wasn't due for another three weeks. And here they were, delivering a baby in the middle of a hurricane.
He placed both hands on her knees and looked up her from his kneeling position on the shower floor. "You got this."
Carrie nodded before taking a very deep breath. She slipped her hand under one of his and squeezed it. He squeezed her hand back. "You ready?"
"Yes."
His other hand slipped from her knee to underneath her body. "I have no idea how labor works so just push."
Carrie screamed her lungs out as she pushed. In just a few moments, she broke out in a sweat and was breathing hard. She was also squeezing his hand so hard, that Harrison secretly hoped she didn't break anything. Because that's what it felt like right now.
"Keep pushing sweetheart."
She screamed again, this time pounding her fist against the shower wall. "I am never having sex with you ever again!"
Harrison just laughed. "Will see how long that holds up."
Carrie gave a big exhale and pushed again. "I can see her! Come on Carrie!"
Gripping his hand as hard as she possibly could, she screamed along with letting out a few swear words. Harrison looked over his shoulder and Carrie looked up as Luke entered the bathroom.
"Is everything okay!?"
Then he saw Carrie. "Oh man. SHANNON!"
Less than thirty seconds later, Shannon came running in. She squeezed in the shower beside Harrison. "I did not think you would go into labor this soon Carrie."
She knelt down. "Harrison, I'm going to give you some help here. Carrie keep pushing for me, okay?"
Carrie nodded. By now both Debbie and Todd had gathered outside the shower door next to Luke. "Todd, why don't you go get some water and crackers for Carrie. She's going to need them after this," Debbie suggested to Todd who was already out the door before his mom even finished.
Carrie was making some progress with the delivery. "You're almost there sweetheart. Keep it up."
She wanted to get this delivery done once and for all. Carrie took a deep breath and pushed as hard as she could, screaming so loudly in the process.
"She's coming!" Harrison shouted.
He let go of her hand and placed it under her body. "One more push Carrie."
One more push was all it took. The pain subsided majorly, and Carrie leaned her head back against the shower wall with a thud. Harrison caught their daughter in his arms. He shed a few tears as they heard her first cry.
"Carrie you did it!"
There was no response. "Carrie?"
Everyone was so focused on the newborn baby, that they hadn't noticed Carrie pass out against the shower wall. Harrison quickly handed his daughter over to Shannon who carefully took her out of the shower to check her vitals and get her cleaned up with Luke.
Harrison caught Carrie before she fell forward. As he gently sat her up again, she opened her eyes. "I passed out," she admitted.
Todd tapped him on the shoulder with a water bottle, a box of crackers, and some wipes. He cleaned his hands and cleaned up Carrie. Then he gave her the water. "Drink this. You need the fluids."
She drank half the water before asking for the crackers. "Carrie, you did it."
"We did it," she corrected with a smile.
Shannon came back with their daughter and gently set her in Harrison's arms. "I checked her vitals. She's healthy."
"Thank you."
Carrie shoved the last cracker in her mouth and held out her arms. "Riley, it's time to meet your mommy."
Harrison gently set Riley in Carrie's arms. "We did it Harry."
"We did it."
She looked down at her daughter. "Riley August Ford, you have impeccable timing."
Everyone laughed, including Debbie who was squeezing between Harrison and the shower door to go meet her granddaughter for the first time.
Shifting Riley to one arm, Carrie tilted Harrison's chin up with her finger. She leaned in and kissed him. "I love you."
"I love you too."
