{Liam’s POV}
“I can’t do this…” Her words broke my heart as she turned and hid away in the back room. It took all I had to keep myself from following her; from holding her tightly and explaining everything. This is what happens when you keep secrets from someone, I thought to myself as I turned around and left the café. Not sure how long I was sitting there in my car in front of the café but it was like my subconscious didn’t want me to leave her there without at least trying to explain. She needed space though, I knew it but it didn’t help those unfamiliar feelings flood my body.
There was nothing I could do at this point but bury myself in my work. I had been neglecting it since I had been spending so much time with Sam. A soft sigh escaped my lips as I thought about her. It seemed like all I did anymore was think about her. Right now, I needed to focus on something else so I head into the office to take care of some work.
As I pull into the warehouse I think about everything I need to tell her. I wonder how she will react to all this. This was a family business and I never really thought of it being that big of a deal, when you grow up in the business of dealing it’s just normal. “Hey pops.” I mumble as I stepped into my father’s office, sinking into one of the leather chairs in front of his desk. “Liam, long time no see. How have you been?” My father didn’t look like a criminal. He was older, with salt and pepper hair. He always dressed nice and had an overly friendly personality. Well that is unless you pissed him off. It was always so weird how he could dish out punishment with a smile and a chuckle; those are probably the ones you really need to look out for. “I’ve been better. Have any work for me tonight? I’m in the mood.” My father smiled an almost proud smile as he looked through his book in front of him. “We have a gun shipment coming in at about 3:30 AM if you want to take some guys with you and supervise the shipment that would be extremely helpful. I promised your mother I would come home at a decent hour tonight.” He said casually as he made a few marks in his book. “What port is it coming into?” I shifted in my seat, my foot now resting against his desk. “Oakland.” He said bluntly, eyeing my foot. I gave him my signature smile before standing up, stretching my arms above my head. “Yea that’s fine, I’ll take care of it.”
We dealt in a little bit of arms dealing and a little drug dealing. Nothing super insane, we kept it pretty low key. My dad had been doing it since before I was born so he had it down to a simple system which kept the violence to a minimum; at least as minimum as illegal activities went. Tonight, I was going to focus on work and try to push her from my mind; for now.
{Sam’s POV} {Saturday Night}
Aside from the incident at the café I had managed to avoid everyone. After a few days Lacy stopped trying to get me to come out of the room. Not sure if she gave up on my totally or just gave me some space; I guess time will tell. I can’t really say I was happier this way but I felt more protected. There wasn’t a minute out of my day where the loneliness didn’t get to me. Before I came here I was used to being alone but now everything was different. I missed Lacy and having someone to talk to and laugh with. Slowly, I climbed off my bed and made my way down the hallway to Lacy’s room. “Hey Lace…” I called out as I knocked lightly on the door. In a heartbeat the door was ripped open and there stood Lacy with an excited look on her face. “Sammy, you're back...” She yelled before pulling me into a tight embrace. Her extreme reaction caught me off guard but the comfort of her hug made me feel at ease. “I thought you were never going to talk to me again.” She pouted, her arms still tightly locked around me. I let out a soft laugh as I slowly pulled myself from her grip. “I’m sorry Lacy, I just needed some space to think, it wasn’t you I promise.” She squealed with delight and tugged me into her bedroom. “Okay so I think we need to have a girls’ night.” The overexcitement in her voice had me thinking maybe she was right. Maybe I needed a night out of the house and some fun. “Only if we look hot and can get trashed.” I said firmly with a big smile. “Oh Sammy, you know me so well.” She laughed as she grabbed her purse and started for the front door. “Are you coming or what?” She called out, not even looking back at me. My eyes moved over to the clock on the wall. “Lacy it’s only noon….” I mumbled, slightly confused as to why she was heading out so early. She sighed, turning around her hand on her hip. “Listen bitch, if we are going to look hot tonight we need to go get you something hot to wear. Grab your shit and come on.” She winked and headed out to her car, with me tagging along behind her.
