I could feel the warm sun washing over my body, there was something so comforting about the warmth of the morning sun. Sometimes I think its because it’s the first sign that tomorrow actually came which means I am still alive. My body stretched out like a cat, a soft purr leaving my lips as I forced the sleep from my body. I finally convinced myself to open my eyes, Liam’s sweet face was the first thing that came into view. His lips extended into a soft pout as he slept peacefully. I’m not sure how I got so lucky to have him in my life, but I knew it wouldn’t last forever. Liam had inspired me to live my life without fear, if I had let fear run my life then I would have never met Liam or experienced all the love he had shown me. He was so special, and I truly believed he had been put in my life for a reason. Trying my best not to wake him, I eased myself out of bed and slipped into the bathroom. After doing my business, I quickly washed my hands and tiptoed back into his room.
My eyes scanned over his gorgeous face once more before changing into a pair of his sweat pants and one of his sweatshirts. This was the last moment I would get to enjoy my love for him, after today everything would be ruined. No matter what happened today I knew that Liam would always have my whole heart. I let out a soft sigh as I placed a kiss to his cheek, he groaned softly as he shifted into a comfortable spot and drifted back off into a deep sleep. It was risky, doing something that might cause him wake up, but I couldn’t leave without one little kiss. After silently saying my goodbyes I made my way over to Liam’s dresser and began digging through the drawers. With his lifestyle I knew he would have it stashed somewhere, now I just had to find it. I jumped slightly when my fingers brushed against the cold metal in his top drawer. Slowly, I pulled out the hand gun, a lump forming in my throat as I held it. I slipped the gun into the hoodie pocket as I dug around some more looking for the ammo to go with it. My hand landed on a cardboard box, it rattled softly as I pulled it from the dresser. Quickly, I tucked it in my pocket before leaving the room, glancing over my shoulder once more at him before closing the door behind me. As much as I loved him and didn’t want to say good bye I knew the choices I had to make were saying goodbye for me.
My mind was in a fog as I grabbed Liam’s car keys and headed out the door. Sliding the key into the ignition, I jumped as the car roared to life. I took a deep breath before I pulled out of the drive way and headed towards Liam’s dad’s home. The car ride seemed shorter than before, I am sure it was due to my mind drifting in and out of focus. Part of me couldn’t believe what I was doing, I could feel that part of myself fighting to break free. However, the hurt and broken part held strong, this was something I had to do. Before I knew it, I was pulling into Mr. Maddox’s drive way; the car came to a slow halt in front of the front entrance. My head rested against the steering wheel as I took a few deep breaths. This man had ruined my life and now I was going to get my revenge. I wasn’t going to let him hold these bad feelings over my head anymore; I was taking control of my life. I forced my hand into my pocket, retrieving the hand gun I had stolen from Liam. Steadying my hand, the best I could, I loaded the bullets into the magazine until it was full. After loading the magazine back into the gun, I made sure the safety was still on before sliding the gun back into my pocket.
My feet seemed to move towards the door on their own, my mind continued to run wild with thoughts. I clinched my fist tightly beating my fist on the front door. After what seemed like forever the door slowly opened reveling a surprised looking Mr. Maddox. His surprised expression slowly faded into a deep smirk, the look on his face brought the memories of my childhood rushing back. My stomach flipped and churned as I looked up at him. “Ahh…Miss Martinez, what a lovely surprise. Please come in.” I clinched my teeth as I stepped into the house, I could feel my body shake with anger, but I did my best to control myself. My hands slipped into the hoodie, clutching the cold metal in my hand. My breathing sped up with each step I took as we made our way to the sitting room. “Please, have a seat.” He grinned, gesturing to the furniture. “No thank you, I’d rather stand.” My voice sounded like I had gravel in my throat as I tried to sound confident. Just by the way he looked at me, he could tell that confidence wasn’t something I had a lot of. “Well then, what can I do for you today?” He smirked as he took a seat in his arm chair.
This man was so calm and collected but his smug smirk let his true colors shine. My heart beat seemed to pound in my ears, making all the other sounds around me seem muffled. “I want an apology.” My voice cracked. I cleared my throat, I was so angry that after all these years this man could still scare me. “Well I’m afraid that will not be happening dear, however if you would like to make some other type of arrangement I’d be open to suggestions…” His eyes scanned over my body, I felt the bile climbed up my throat. My hand slowly pulled the handgun from my pocket, aiming it directly at him. “It’s a shame your actions had to ruin so many people.” I whispered, his eyes growing at the sight of the gun. “You ruined my life and now I have to ruin Liam’s. You know, I love your son more than anything in the whole world but because of what you did to me I have to take matters into my own hands…”
I could see the wheels in his head turning as he began working on a way to unarm me. His eyes moving from the gun and up to my face. “Miss Martinez, we both know you aren’t going to shoot me. You are pathetic.” His voice burned me like fire, I could feel my skin light up as I took a step towards him. “You have no idea what I will do. You see all those years ago you broke me down. All those times, you took little parts of me until there is nothing left.” I spat, now only inches from his face. I placed the tip of the gun to his temple as I looked him in the eyes. “You are a disgusting excuse for a man, I am so glad you didn’t rub off too much on Liam.” My words dripped with venom. I wanted to pull the trigger so badly, but I wanted to hear him say it first, I wanted to hear him beg for his life.
As I opened my mouth to speak I heard the front door open and close. My body froze in its spot, I couldn’t get caught before I ended him, I thought to myself.
“Sam…” I felt a lump in my throat as I heard Liam’s voice behind me. I could feel the hot tears pricking at my eyes. This isn’t how I wanted this to happen, I didn’t want him to have to see this. My body was frozen in its spot, his dad must have noticed my discomfort because his cocky smile returned to his face. “I get why you’re doing this Sam, but I don’t want him to have this power over you. I don’t want you to ruin your life because of him. He’s not worth it.” His voice begged me, a loud chuckle coming from his dad snapped my attention back to him. “Wow son, what a great way to speak about your father. We will discuss that later though.” My fingers tightened around the gun, the tip digging into his temple. “No, you wont talk to him later. Liam, I am sorry, but I have to do this….” I released the safety on the gun, placing my finger on the trigger. Right as I was about to pull the trigger I felt Liam’s strong arms wrap themselves around me and lift me into the air; pulling the gun from his father’s head. “Liam, quit!” I yelled, thrashing my legs around in a fit to break free from his grasp. I felt his hand rip the gun from mine and the reality that I had failed hit me like a brick wall. “Sam, I won’t let him destroy you more than he has already.” Liam grunted as he still fought to keep a hold of my body.
“You cant do this to me!” I screamed, tears pouring from my eyes. I was so caught up in the moment with Liam I hadn’t even noticed his father had gotten up from his chair and moved across the room until he cleared his throat, drawing my attention to him. When my eyes found him, they were met with an outstretched gun pointing at me. My heart jumped into my chest as his deceiving smile curled over his lips. “Miss, you have crossed the wrong man.”
