(Richie's POV)
"So his uncle will be there?" my mom asked with her arms crossed pressed tight against her chest. I had sprawled my suitcase out on my bed and was going through my closet for things to bring.
"Yep, I told you that last week. Neither Eddie or I can drive, and we don't have money, or anything. There's no way we could do this without his uncle, unfortunately," I said, grabbing some coats and flannels.
She sighed deeply. "I know it's tomorrow, but I just don't feel ready-"
"Mom. This is not for me, it's for Eddie. I know you're still warming up to the fact that we're dating, but it's been six months. He..loves me."
My mom nodded. "Alright, just don't get in any trouble, Richard. I know that you have a knack for that," she raised her eyebrows at me and walked out of the doorway and back into the hall.
I shrugged as I saw her figure walk out of the room. I held out clothes in front of me and threw them all in the suitcase.
"Eddie's here," my father shouted from the livingroom.
My boyfriend walked in the room and stared at the suitcase. "Please don't tell me that's how you're packing," he said, hands on his hips.
I laughed. "Okay, well, please show me how, Mr. Expert-Bag-Packer."
He smiled. "Mr. Expert-Bag-Packer? That's all you got? Very unlike you, Richie, very unlike you." He clicked his teeth and sat on the bed.
He picked up a pair of my jeans and held it in front of him for me to see. He made eye contact with me to make sure I was paying close attention. He folded it down the middle and up from the knee. and then in half again. He laid it at the bottom of my suitcase and sealed it with a pat of the hand.
"You make it look so easy," I sneered. He smiled and laughed. "Richie, give me your hand."
I reached out across the suitcase and he held my wrist and pushed it down slightly to hover over a shirt.
"Alright, smartass. I can do this."
I picked up the shirt on my own and folded it in half and then threw it in the suitcase. He sighed and shook his head back and forth.
"Richie, I love you, but you really suck at this."
He proceeded to pack everything for me. I stared as he carefully executed each fold and each crease. He caught me staring and looked up and back down. He smiled to himself. "You really need to learn this stuff," he said.
"Why? I have you?" I taunted.
He rolled his eyes and blushed. "Don't give me that. I'm not your housewife or maid."
I giggled. "You always call yourself the wife," I pointed out.
He looked embarrassed. "Well it's only cause that's what you do!"
"I love that you talk about us being married all the time."
He blushed even more. "Well, I mean someday-"
I stopped him. "I will marry you, Eddie. It won't be anytime soon, of course, but I know when the time is right, I'm gonna ask you to marry me."
He smiled and made eye contact. "I'll say yes," he said.
I covered my ears with my hands. "No spoilers!" I joked. He pulled my hands down away from my ears and we both laughed.
He finished packing and zipped the suitcase up. "Okay, where are your other ones?" he asked.
I raised an eyebrow. "Other ones?"
"Yeah, babe, your other suitcases."
"Umm.... I don't have any other suitcases?"
I was confused and he was shocked. Neither one of us knew exactly what the other meant.
"How many suitcases have you packed?" I asked.
"Three, and a small bag for snacks."
My mouth hung open and I couldn't help put nervously laugh. There was no reason at all Eddie should be bringing three suitcases to a seven day trip.
"THREE?"
"and a bag for snacks," he quietly added.
I laughed. "Eddie, what could you possibly have in those bags that takes THREE fully sized suitcases?"
"Clothes, extra clothes, pajamas, my emergency kit, and more clothes just in case some of mine get dirty," he said innocently.
"Oh boy. Well, at least we are prepared," I shrugged. He shrugged back and then froze and his face lit up with excitement.
"What?" I asked.
"I almost forgot! I had it in my pocket all week and I forgot to give it to you!"
"Eddie, what? What?"
He pulled out a thin silver chain with a charm at the bottom, with the letter E on it. I melted instantly. He got me a necklace with his initial on it. That was so cute. I adored him.
"Aw!" I moved my suitcase to get closer to him. I hugged him and he smiled purely.
"Do you want me to put it on you?" he asked.
"Uh, hell yeah, I do."
I turned around and he draped the chain over my face and around my neck and linked the chains in the back to keep it in place. I looked down at the silver E dangling on my chest and my heart fluttered.
"I know it's not a trip to New York or anything, but, I thought that you might like it."
"I don't like it," I said, pretending to be angry. His smile dropped and I couldn't even bother to mess with him, I couldn't.
"I'm kidding, oh my god. I love it."
His smile shined again and I hugged him. Tomorrow began a whole new adventure. My gift to Eddie, the trip, was going to be so much fun. I couldn't wait.
