"YOU WILL BURN!"
Fire. Smoke. Everything was slowly melting away all around me. Smaug decided to search the high grounds while I remained on the lower area, in case they decided to come back. The Dwarves have gotten smarter, I'll give them that. They've managed to block off all the entrances somehow and I can't find anyway to get up higher. My sharp claws click against the dark stone as I slowly walk deeper into the great halls. The ground shakes beneath me as Smaug carelessly climbs over the high structures, slithering around. He's been silent for awhile now... I'm just hoping he's not planning on killing me as well.
Large stairs leading up to more bridges and paths catch my eye. The sight already causes exhaustion to build and I take a seat before proceeding. A few blood stains are on my white paws and I lift it up out of curiosity. A few beads of crimson drip down from my claws and I bring it closer to my face, licking it. The iron taste is satisfying and brings more fire to my bloodlust. Based on the amount of the substance, I'd say I got them pretty good. Too bad I wasn't able to find out who I hit. I stand after finishing the little snack and shake my body to get rid of the dirt. If only the rest of the Dwarves didn't push me off the bridge, I could've ended them right then and there!
A deep growl sounds causing my ears to perk up. There's no movement in the distance, which means Smaug must be on the other side. I grunt, best hurry and catch up, can't let him have all the fun. My lips curl up into a wicked smile, exposing the sharp pearls underneath. I raise my snout and give the air a sniff, only to find more traces of smoke and dragon breath. Thanks to his stomping around and use of flames, my senses are useless. They'll most likely spot me first, since they have the high ground advantage. I scoff and sprint up the stairs, reaching the top in just a few seconds. Nothing but a clear walkway greets my vision, how annoying.
Large stones up ahead block one of the paths, causing me to go the opposite way. I hang my head low, staring at the different line patterns engraved on the floor. Without much thought, I follow one of the lines, in some kind of trance. After a few minutes of nothing but turns, my head bumps into something hard. I shake around in surprise and peer up at a large, wooden door. More carvings are imprinted on it but some is darkened, thanks to the burns. I stare at it for a bit when a small crack appears, revealing some parts of the room. Smaug's deep growl echoes again and I take a quick glance around before entering.
The door creaks open as I nudge it with my nose and squeeze through. It's not as dark as one would've thought but still had that gloomy look to it. My eyes scan the dark walls, seeing many banners that have faded due to age, hung all around. Different types of weapons accompany them but no longer shine in pride. A few coins slide forward as my paws kick them and chill runs down my spine when I reach the center. Cob webs and dust mask the once beautiful furniture, making it all appear worn out. The rooms current state, is not that all surprising. No one has been here for years except Smaug. I sneeze at the heavy amount of dust and back up, knocking into something.
At the same time, the ground begins to shake more than before and small cracks form on the ground. I wait for it to pass, assuming that Smaug was being careless while climbing again. It soon goes quiet after a bit and all I hear is my heavy breathing. What exactly is he doing over there? I ignore the metal objects that had fallen and quickly exit the room. I slowly make my way to the stairs when I feel eyes suddenly planted on me. Smaug is still far away and I know I would've noticed that beast by now if it were him. There's another level just above, which can only mean one thing. The Dwarves came straight to me... But something feels off.
