Emma's POV:
Is she back? We need her. Now more than ever. The doctor rushes me out of the room, and I have to sit in the waiting room, waiting. I can't- well I don't want to- call David, it will only give him what I have now. Hope. And anxiety. I can't give him false hope. So, I check the time every five minutes. Every four minutes. Every minute. Every 45 seconds. Every 30 seconds. Still no news. I get up to go get a coffee or something. There is a coffee machine literally 5 feet away, but I'm shaking too much to even walk. Holy crap, how long does it take to give someone news?! I sit back down and someone sits next to me. "Go away." I tell them. "I'm really not in the mood to socialize with anyone." I explain, knowing I came off a little rude. "Who said anything about socializing?" A familiar voice said, sitting next to me. I immediately get up again and go to the coffee machine. The person follows.
Neal.
He gets a cup of coffee too. "So, did Mary Margaret wake up?" He asks. "Like you care." I reply. "I do. If you care, I care." He says. "Yeah, right." I say, walking back to my seat. Of course, he sits next to me. After 5 minutes of agonizing silence and anxiety, the doctor finally comes back. "So?" I ask, anxiously. "It, it was just a twitch." The doctor tells me.
I sink back into my seat. It can't be. We need her back. "Oh... Okay." I say. "I'm sorry." The doctor says. I just nod and get up. "Emma..." Neal says, wrapping his arm around my shoulder, which I immediately push off. "Don't touch me. I'm fine. Bye now." I say, walking towards Mary Margaret's room. "Em, you need comfort." He tries to tell me. "I don't need comfort. And definitely not from you." I say, walking into Mary Margaret's room and closing the door behind me.
I sit in the chair next to her hospital bed. "Hi again. So apparently you just had a twitch. Sorry that you're not up. If you were up you could have signed the papers. We would be a family, well officially. We already kind of are, aren't we? You've been there for me since the beginning of high school. Remember? I mean, you basically caught onto it faster than Killian. You helped me a lot. We all miss you. But we have, well we are trying to fill your shoes, which is impossible but the way, and have hope, like you always do." I tell her. I just wish she were here to hear me say it.
I get up and walk outside. Right outside of Granny's on the bench. I just need a few minutes I guess. Well, I end up staying there longer than just a few minutes. More like an hour. And like halfway through that hour it stared to pour. Wonderful. I still sat there, in the cold rain. I had nothing better to do.
Then I see Killian's car driving around. I forgot I told him I'd meet up with him after I saw Mary Margaret. Damn.
He pulls up to the bench I'm sitting at and gets out. "Emma! I was worried sick. Why are you out here?" He asks. "You know what, just get in the car. It's freezing out here.." He says. "I'm okay..." I told him, quietly. "Emma? Love, are you alright?" He asks me. I knew I couldn't lie to him. He would assume something was wrong, which it was. "No." I answered quietly, getting into his car.
We drove back to his house in silence. He knew I didn't want to talk about it, so he didn't. We went into his house and sat down. "So?" He asked softly. "So?" I repeated. What was I supposed to say? Hey, I thought Mary Margaret was going to wake up but I guess not?
"What's wrong?" He asked me. Oh, great, just what I was waiting for. "I was... I was just at the hospital." I told him. "Yeah? And?" He pushed gently. "I thought Mary Margaret was going to wake up... But she didn't..." I trail off. He immediately puts his arm around me. He knows it will kind of sorta help me feel better... It did.
"What's the point anymore? I doubt she even will wake up... She's been in the stupid coma for a few months." I told him. "Don't say that..." he said. "Why? Are you trying to do the whole hope speech, because you can save it." I told him, maybe a little too harshly. "Swan-" Killian started. "I said don't. We should just... Not talk about it. Let's see what David is up to." I interrupt, brushing his arm off of me and getting up.
Before he can even say anything, I get out my phone and call David. "Hey." I say. "Hi Emma. We found some stuff, come down to the station." He tells me. Something to distract me, thank God. "Okay, I'll be right there." I tell him, before hanging up. "I have to go down to the Sheriff's station. Apparently they found something." I told Killian. "Can I come?" He asks. "It might be suspicious." I answer. "Oh..." He trails off. He was really, really disappointed.
"Sorry, maybe next time. Who knows. Bye." I tell him. "Bye, love you." He says. "Love you too." I whisper under my breath, before walking to the station.
I open the door to the station and see David waiting for me, with the sheriff. He had brown hair and blue green eyes. "Hey, Emma. This is Sheriff Graham." David introduced. "Hi." I said. "Hey." Graham said. He had an accent, Irish maybe?
"What did you find?" I asked. "Oh, not exactly the best, but someone cut the security camera cord. It was planned." Graham told me. "Really?" I asked. "Yeah, it cut out everything after you walked up to James's cell, so we didn't see anything. Sort of suspicious." David said. "Yeah..." I trail off. "But who did it?" I wondered out loud. "They covered their tracks pretty well." David told me. "Who even can get into the station?" I asked. "It should be nobody but me." Graham answered. "Did you watch the outside security camera?" I asked. "No, but good idea." David said.
Graham got the security tape on the computer and we all watched it.
We saw a hooded figure walk up to the station and pick the lock. While he was picking the lock he was careless enough to let the hood falter just enough. "It's Neal." I stated. "Are you sure?" Graham asked. "I'm sure." I replied. Then Neal cut out the tape. "Let's go find him." I say.
We drive around looking for Neal. He's sitting on a table outside of Granny's. Graham gets out and started talking to Neal. I decided to get out of the car too, just in case Neal tried to pull something. "Hey, Emma." Neal said, casually pulling away from his and Graham's I'm conversation. "Who was in the car?" I asked. "What do you mean?" He played, fake innocently. "Who did James tell to crash into Mary Margaret's car?" I asked. "How would I know that?" He asked again, innocently. "Oh, shut up. I know you know." I told him. "Well, that's quite the accusation there, Emma. Or should I say, Swan." He said, in a mocking tone. Graham just raised an eyebrow, but I ignored him too. "Neal, this is serious." I said. "Who said I'm not serious?" He asked.
"Graham, can Neal and I have a minute, please?" I asked. Graham nodded and walked back to the car. "Finally, we're alone." Neal said. "Okay, really, who was in the car?" I asked, ignoring his previous comment. "Well, that information would come with a price." He said. "And what's the price?" I asked. "Break up with the teacher." He said. "Who said we were ever dating?" I answered. "Oh, who's playing innocent now? I could easily tell the sheriff right now about you two." Neal said. "Just shut up. This was never about me. This is about who crashed into Mary Margaret. Who James told to." I said. "You got nothing on me. I don't have to say a word." Neal said, with a small laugh. "Actually, we know you cut the security tape. You are in trouble either way, mind as well start telling the truth." I told him. "Walsh. Walsh did it." He confessed. "Okay, thanks for the cooperation." I said, walking back to Graham. "Walsh Anderson did it." I told him. "Okay. I'll find him." He said. "Call me when you do." I said. "Will do." Graham said, handcuffing Neal. "Woah, woah woah. Why am I getting arrested?" Neal asked. "Further questioning." Graham answered.
"Need a ride home?" David asked. "No, I'll just walk I think. Thanks though." I said.
Halfway through my walk home it started to pour again.
Killian's POV:
Emma's walls were slowly building up again. After the false hope she got at the hospital and her harsh past, I don't doubt her at all.
There was a knock at the door. I got up and opened the door, it was Emma, soaked and upset. "Hi." She said softly. "Swan. Here, come in." I said, opening the door wider so she could walk in. She slowly stepped in enough for me to close the door.
"Sorry." She whispered, just enough for me to hear. I slowly grabbed her hand and sat her down on the couch. "It's okay, Swan.'' I said. "It's just with Mary Margaret not being here, and probably not coming back, I guess my walls came back up." She told me. "I know, Emma, I know. It's okay. And hey, Mary Margaret is coming back. Soon, I can tell." I said. I mean, who knows when she's coming back, but I know she will. She has to. "You really think so?" Emma asked me. "I really do." I answered. She smiled at me lightly then laid down.
