Part 8:
One:
The next morning, Randy was up, out of bed, and dressed as soon as dawn had come. He still was in unrest after Michael threw champagne on him a few days ago. His ears were sore because he wore his earphones all night; his alarm to wake him up came through his earphones, so it wouldn't wake his roommates, especially Michael. Randy had made sure to be in bed last at night and up first thing in the morning so he didn't have to face him. Being quiet and stealthy, he opened his bedroom door opened and he slipped right out into the early morning hours. Randy walked down the hall and passed Sara and Andie's room. He took the sight of the door frame barricade yet again. He felt bad for them inside; it wasn't right of Michael to trap them in their own room for no apparent reason. "Hell, Michael shouldn't even be leader!" Randy thought to himself. Randy studied their door and considered knocking, seeing if either of them was awake. He decided not to and left the door be. He continued on through the empty foyer, listening to his footsteps echo around the tall walls. Randy stopped under the deer antler chandelier, observing the kitchen entrance. He saw, nor heard anything coming from the kitchen. However, a sound of muffled footsteps haunted Randy's eardrums. He looked over to the glass door of the library. He saw a rough figure and slight movement coming from this figure on inside the library. Randy was surprised anyone was even in there; who could it be? Why were they in there at this time of the morning? Randy decided not to enter the library from the foyer. He walked through the rest of the foyer and entered into the kitchen; no one was to be seen. Randy found the tucked-away door to the library and approached it. He reached for the knob, trying to be quiet. He had no idea who - or what - was on the other side of the door. He opened slowly, not letting the door make any audible noise. Randy opened it enough to just step in. Giving up his silent routine, Randy had entered the library and saw the blurry figure he saw moments earlier. They saw Randy and gasped. "Emma?" Randy questioned her. She tucked a book she had taken out back on its shelf and nervously focus on him. "I barely know you." She replied bitterly. "What do you want?" "I want to know what the heck you're doing in here so early." Randy stated. Emma hesitated, but kept her composure. "I got an early start I guess." She said. "And I was bored, so this was my only option, really." Emma tapped the bookshelf. "To read a book." Randy nodded. "You seem so nervous. Why are you nervous?" Randy began to become suspicious. "Just shut up, okay? I don't want you starting rumors about me with Michael. I don't wanna get locked in my room like Sara and Andie." Emma replied. "Don't worry. I am avoiding him at all costs." Randy said. He paused for a second in thought. "I thought you voted for Michael. Why don't you trust him?" Emma sighed. "I was afraid not to vote for him. I basically voted for him out of fear. Getting on good terms with him makes me less vulnerable to rumors and lies. I have a feeling people think I killed Adin..." Emma looked away from Randy and began a monologue of her thoughts. "I mean, c'mon; everyone knows the cliche that it's always the innocent, unsuspecting one that commits the crime. I know I'm quiet, I know I'm unnoticed, and I want to be. But know, since people know stuff about me here, I'm at risk of being framed. Voting for Michael was a safety mechanism. By voting for him, it says I'm loyal to him, and that I will support his decisions." Emma looked to Randy. "I hope I can trust you with this, but I am terrified by Michael. He should not be leader whatsoever." I totally agree." Randy replied. Emma looked away again. "I hate the fact that I'm introverted and that I even came here. Once we get out of here, we're all suspects to a murder. I really don't want to go through that. My family will be so disappointed in me..." "No they won't." Randy reassured her. "They'll be glad you're alive and well. Once the planes come back to get us, we'll all be safe and away from this monster." Randy referred to Adin's killer. "No doubt." Emma replied. "No donut what?" A voice said. A familiar blonde had opened the library and foyer door and peeked in to see Emma and Randy. "Nothing." Randy quickly responded to Jeanette. She tilted her head in disbelief at the two. "Don't lie, guys." Jeanette said. "We don't wanna have to tell Michael about this-" "We were talking about Shakespeare. Great playwright. We both have no doubt that Hamlet is better than Romeo and Juliet-" Emma responded to Jeanette. "That's a lie." Jeanette bluntly stopped her. "Don't act like you weren't talking about Adin or some stupid little secret you have. It's on everyone's mind, and we shouldn't restrict our thoughts about him anymore. And especially to me. So if you wanna theorize with Randy, go ahead-" "We weren't even on that topic to begin with-" "We'll get out of here, and we'll all be fine." Jeanette again interrupted Emma. "Anyways, I think I saw Carmen coming out of the bathroom. She should be getting around to breakfast in a little bit. Can you guys help me get out stuff for pancakes?" "Yes." Randy replied. Jeanette stepped into the library and crossed between Randy and Emma. She went out the slightly open door Randy had left from coming in. He followed Jeanette into the kitchen, looking back at Emma. She shook her head silently. Randy shrugged and turned away. Randy knew both their thoughts were clear; Jeanette's suspicion was not something to be reckoned with. They knew this could very well cost them their safety on the island.
