Three:
"What's up everyone? Welcome!" Adin announced loudly on the lawn to the passengers of the new flight. The passenger door to the plane was open, but no one was coming out. Adin was puzzled. With Michael next to him, Adin approached the large floatplane. He could see the pilot was turned around into the passenger area. Adin reluctantly and slowly stepped onto the wooden dock and became even more puzzled. It seemed like no one was in the plane besides the pilot. "What's going on?" Adin asked the pilot of the plane. The pilot did not acknowledge Adin at all. Adin turned to Michael and shrugged. He stepped onto the pontoon and put his head inside. "Have a good time, and stay safe." The pilot finished to the passengers. "Adin!" Carmen said in an excited tone. The others looked to Adin said his name. Carmen stood up from her seat and hugged Adin. "Hi Carmen. It's nice that you are so excited to be here." Adin said while hugging Carmen. Adin looked at everyone while still embracing Carmen. "I hope you are all too!" The passengers cheered. Carmen let go of Adin and looked at him. "Where's Jeanette? I promised I'd help for the big party-" Carmen tried. Adin shot out his hand at Carmen's lips and shushed her. Sitting nearby, his buddy JT looked at him. "A party?" He asked. His deep voice bounced off the plane's walls. "That was supposed to be a secret, Carmen." Adin said quietly to Carmen. He took his finger off her mouth. "Oh. Sorry. I'm just so excited!" She said in an enthusiastic tone. "What's going on in here?" Michael said from the plane's pontoon. Almost in unison, close friends Brock, Randy, and Taylor stood. "Hey Michael." Taylor said to Michael. She got her bag she had under her seat and squeezed past Carmen and Adin. Brock and Randy followed with their bags. "We'll, what are we waiting for? Everyone's waiting inside. Follow me, guys!" Adin said, waving to the exit. Carmen went back to her seat and grabbed her two large pink bags. Still siting, Emma looked out the window. JT stood to block Adin's view of her for a second. Adin shuffled around JT and approached Emma. "Hey Emma. You're being kind of quiet." Adin said to her. She looked at him. "Sorry. I was just thinking. I'll get my stuff in a second. I have to text my mom-" she said, reaching for her pocket. "Don't bother. There's no cell reception up here at all." Adin said. "Oh great." She reached under her seat and pulled out her bag. "Let's go. I get claustrophobic easy." Adin walked away from her and hopped out the passenger door. Michael was on the dock talking to Taylor, Randy, and Brock. "Oh you, kid. C'mere." The pilot said to Adin. Adin turned to see Rich, the pilot, by one of the plane's engines. Adin approached him. "You gonna be okay up here? I can get your folks up here if you want." The pilot asked Adin. "It's fine, Rich. I promised them we'd be safe." Adin replied. "Got any drugs or alcohol in the cabin?" The pilot asked. "No." Adin said, surprised at the question. "Why do you ask?" "Just making sure you weren't gonna get drunk or high here. Your folks would lose their marbles." Rich said to Adin. "I promise we'll be safe. I got the CB radio if anything goes wrong." Adin reassured. "Okay. Be safe." Rich patted Adin's shoulder. Adin smiled. Rich walked past Adin and stepped onto the plane's pontoon. "Hey Adin, are we going inside or what?" JT said. Adin turned to his friends. "Yeah. You can go right in." Adin said. Michael led the group off the dock and to the stone path. Adin stayed in the very back, watching everyone from behind. JT paused and waited for Adin. Adin got to his side and JT continued walking again. "What's up?" JT asked Adin. "Nothing. I just don't like lying to Rich. I've known him since I was little." Adin replied. "Why did you lie?" JT asked. "I didn't want him to tell my folks about the alcohol I brought." Adin said. "Oh, good reason to lie, Adin." JT said with a smile. "Now the party's gonna be great." "Yeah." Adin nodded with a fake smile. Adin thought about what his parents would do if they figured out he was drinking on their property. They would pull him from the football team, which would let his whole school down. Almost as if JT could hear Adin's thoughts, he said "Your parents aren't gonna know. Just make sure to throw away the bottles." "Trust me, I have an insurance program with Jeanette. She takes away the beer when I've had too many." Adin said with a real smile. "Heh. I'll do the same with Emma. That's even if she'll go. She might hide in her room and 'read.'" JT replied. Adin stepped onto the veranda again. The front door was open and all of his friends were crowded at the door. "Adin, come up here." Adin heard Jeanette in the front of the crowd. His friends parted for him. Jeanette was standing directly under the chandelier. Adin saw Logan and Wyatt on the stairs and Sara and Andie standing in the lounge room. "Alright everyone, welcome!" Jeanette announced loudly. "How are we feeling?" She yelled. Everyone starting cheering loudly. The sound bounced off the walls of the foyer. Adin liked the noise. "Alright, tonight dinner is at 5:00 PM, and the fire starts at sundown." Jeanette said. "And Adin has a surprise for all of us tonight. Be here-" Jeanette pointed at the lounge room. "At 11:00. Wear something you can move in. Any questions?" The crowd went silent. "Alright everyone." Jeanette said. "Have fun everyone!" Adin added. "If you just got here, get some roomies and find a room. Co-ed is allowed!" The crowd in foyer began to move for the stairs. Everyone started filing out the foyer. Adin and Jeanette slipped by the crowd and went into a room to the left of them. Adin looked up at the large shelves of books and is reminded of his mom. The leather chair by the bay window makes him think of his mom and his aunt knitting when he was younger. The only thing that he doesn't like about the room is how dark it gets. His older cousin once locked him in there for a night as a sick prank. He had been uneasy about the room ever since. All of these memories remind him that he, undeniably, is in his mom's library. "Will you help me make dinner?" Jeanette asks, ruining the silence. Adin shakes his head as if he's trying to shake the memories away. "What?" Adin asked. "Will you, Adin, help me make dinner?" Jeanette repeats clearly. "Yes." Adin quickly replies. "Okay." Jeanette says. She walks to a door between two shelves of books that led to the kitchen. Adin shuts the door from the foyer and goes through the one to the kitchen. He steps onto the tile on the floor in the kitchen. He turns back to the library and takes a deep breath. Then he shuts it.
