'You guys make a gorgeous couple.' Ms Richards remarked, giving Alexander and I a warm smile before sipping on her champagne.
'Thank you Ms Richards. Oh and that wine you sent a few days ago, it was absolutely divine.' I flashed her a thankful smile and she chuckled to herself, shaking her head.
'Fine wine for a fine pair.' she gave me a wink. 'Thank you again for making it, I know you two must be...awfully busy, especially now that these are the early days of your marriage-' I internally gagged knowing exactly what she thought we were busy with.
'-but please, help yourself to anything, dinner starts at 7 and if you need something come to me personally.' She gave us one warm smile before moving onto the next guest. I cringed slight, letting out a grimace.
Alexander may be attractive but he was Satan's Spawn 2.0 as well and I hated being associated to him as a partner. Well, at least he smelled nice. That helped tone down the cringing a little.
'How many more people?' I groaned quietly beside him. He was surprising relaxed beside my ridged form despite being stiff as a board when we initially entered.
'I think we just have the Williams to greet left.' I froze.
'We can skip them.' I muttered, turning towards the refreshments table.
'No we can't' he said in a monotonous voice, gently pulling me towards the direction where they probably were. I groaned and then realized that it was probably good if they saw Alexander and I together. Maybe they'd stop looking at me like I had made a big mistake.
'Where? I can't even see them!' I tried to peer over all the people but those were perks short people couldn't exactly enjoy. Alexander looked down at me and I could have sworn, the devil's lips quirked up slightly on one side as if it were a whisper of a smirk.
'Why's that?' he asked. I glared at him, sharply elbowing his side. He winced slightly but the corner of his mouth stretched out slightly further, his more evident smirk stayed intact on his face.
'Oh I don't know, I must be blind.' I gave him a sugary smile and turned back to face the front.
'Gnome from hell-' I heard him mutter under his breath making me burst out laughing.
'That's funny coming from Satan's ass crack.' I teased. He looked down at me small but hardly visible specks of amusement evident in his green orbs.
Before I knew it, we were standing in front of Mr and Ms Williams who didn't notice us and were in deep conversation. All of a sudden, I moused down and found myself pressing myself closer to Alexander, my eyes fixated on the ground and my hands clutching his arm tighter.
He definitely noticed because he looked down at me with a small frown on his face, but thank god he didn't move away. I didn't know if I could go through this meeting without somehow fainting.
God, I was so extra.
'Lanna?' I heard Ms Williams call out and I looked up to see her eyes wide as she studied me and Alexander together the expression on her face unreadable. My throat suddenly went dry and I just gave her a small smile.
Thank God Alexander noticed and took it upon himself to talking for both of us. 'Hello Mr Williams, Mrs Williams-' he gave them a small nod in greeting. '-I apologize for not being able to greet you during the wedding, some business matter came up.' Mrs William's eyes studied him with a hard look for a moment before she nodded.
'Don't worry, Lanna informed us of the matter coming up when we came to greet her.' she gave a small smile before her eyes snapped to look at me. They were splinters with every shade of blue trapped inside.
