I pushed it away quickly, my thirst tearing into me as I got up. I didn't listen to Matt's complaints, I knew what he was going to say but I also knew where I could feed, if I could make it there before it became a nightmare, my personal hell on earth. I had two choices, to feed off Matt and perhaps kill him or turn him or get to the club, feed off a large bottle of blood, where I couldn't physically hurt someone.

"Where are you going?" Matt asked.

"Anywhere but here" I lied.

"Oh, come on!"

"I'm going to the club" I snapped angrily, bitterly.

I knew why I was bitter, heartbreak and blood thirst, the temptation to go to Leo's, to kill him. If I did, I'd be caught or at least Matt would know, I'd know I was a killer, I'd know exactly what I was capable of. I didn't want to be a monster, yet I could feel it, building up carefully, as if it hoped I'd 'accidently' take the wrong path and end up at his, where I'd knock on the door, be invited in... then finish what I started, end his pain.

I took the right path, to the club not to his house although it took every ounce of strength not to. The hate, the pain... I couldn't bear it, any of it but I had to drink before I hurt someone, before I did head over to Leo's and do what it wanted, what I wanted. There was little point in denying it, I wanted to hurt Leo for causing me pain, not that it would've made a real difference.

Heading into the flat I was given by the club, was surprisingly easy and downing a bottle of human blood was even easier. I wiped around my mouth and threw out one of the empty bottles.

"Interesting" a voice stated. I couldn't see a face, just two bright red eyes but somehow, I knew exactly who it was.

"What is?" I asked.

"Oh? No 'who are you?' or 'what do you want?' I am surprised"

"I know who you are, Caleb" I snapped.

"Ah, the vampire blood... I suppose traces linger, they'll die out soon enough"

"The effect has already worn off"

"Yes, I can tell... interesting"

"Piss off" I snapped.

"How rude. I warned you, it isn't my fault that you can't deal with the lows afterwards, if you stop drinking it, you'll return to normal, just be your average vampire with not even one kill under his belt"

"Because all vampires are killers" I responded sarcastically.

"All I've met, that have lived past their five-year milestone"

"There are vampire milestones?"

"And their creators and creations bet on who will live and who will die... my money is on your survival"

"Why?" I asked. "You hate me"

"You? No. I hate Sapphire for breaking the rules to make you, I hate that you could be so good, you might be my replacement and I hate that she's given you vampire blood when she knows the damage it causes; besides, I think you'll be the one that surprises us" he admitted.

"You gave me vampire blood" I pointed out.

"I know and it isn't something I regret because I only did it so you have a chance to do what you please before it really kicks in... I hope you'll thank me later"

I didn't ask him anything, I just wanted him to leave before I ended up asking but he was much stronger, if I asked him to leave, he could easily snap my neck if he wanted to and although that wouldn't kill me, it would take a while to heal.

"Why are you here? What do you want?"

"I actually came here to warn you. Since we didn't exchange addresses or numbers, I decided to wait for you to come back, once the blood wore off"

"Warn me about what? Is Sapphire coming back?" I asked quickly, wondering if he was telling me to flee because I was about to be killed for being with Nick.

"No, not that... she'll be back but not yet... there's no easy way to say this but... they're coming"

"Who's they?"

"Hunters. What I'm asking you not to do is not to kill, whatever it takes, just cling onto something... don't kill and avoid the pasty, pale look and they won't be suspicious"

"Ever met one?" I asked.

"If I had, I'd be dead"

"Or they'd be dead" I commented boldly.

"I'm not strong enough to take down hunters with that much experience. Their annoying silver weapons make us weak, stake finally kills us... after they're done with their torture. After all, we at least know the name of our creators and creations"

"Has anyone ever survived?"

"Not that I'm aware of. Seriously, don't play hide and seek with the hunters, you'll hide, they'll seek you out, torture you to the point where you're begging for an end, the end of course involving a large wooden stake, knowing you've given up the names of nearly every vampire you know" Caleb answered.

"Thanks for warning me" I replied politely.

"You know, you're not actually half bad, for a new vampire. When you pass your milestone, Baby Vampire, I can collect my money... if not, you're going to make another vampire very happy"

"Did you just...?"

"Don't complain, once you hit your five years, you'll be Teen Vampire"

"I hate you" I joked.

"I do try" he replied with a wink as he left. "Oh, and you should really be careful, anyone can get in" he joked as he ran off.

I felt better, better but Nick still played on my mind. I couldn't help but think about him, about how much I really hated Leo for what he did. He was a drunk but Matt wouldn't let him go, he was determined to help him, as if he wasn't a lost cause... he was in my eyes, he didn't want help, he kept refusing help, from anyone. I hated being in Matt's flat, it was an awful reminder of what I'd lost thanks to Leo... who I'd lost, thanks to his slurs. If I wasn't in control, Leo would've been dead, if I was any worse, he'd be dead and buried somewhere, with no one the wise, Matt unable to prove I killed him.
