------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kyleigh's POV:
It's been 4 days, 5 days, 6 days? I'm not sure, I lost count out of boredom. I've been simply stuck in this cell with only the company of Ellie. I have no way to contact anyone on the outside as my equipment was confiscated. I miss my family, I miss Lily, I miss my friends, I miss Caitlyn, Kathryn, Angela, Greg. I miss Ryan, even though I feel like I've ruined things between us, at least I was trying to keep safe.
For the past few days, things have been the same. Some ANIME agent would show up and bring some food for Ellie and me. They'd give us water too, but I've not had quite enough. I'd try to use my powers a bit, partially to pass time, but they are purposely trying to weaken my powers to make me less likely to escape.
Vita has never shown back up to chat. Neither has the leader of ANIME, Abigale. It's always been some agent I'm unfamiliar with.
Today is different though; there's finally a change in the routine. When I wake up in the morning, I feel a bit dehydrated, as I have felt for the past couple days. There's a slight dizziness from it and I know that if I'm not careful, the dizziness can get much worse. I've experienced it plenty of times before. But today I notice something else. There's a dull ache on the back of my neck. I light touch my neck with my fingers to see what's wrong, but when I touch the center close to where my hairline begins, I feel a sharp pain and I draw my hand away immediately.
"I wouldn't want to touch it if I were you," I hear somebody say. "It'll probably be sore for a few days yet." Abigale comes into view by the door of the cell.
I walk over to the cell door. "What did you do to me?"
"Oh don't worry, you'll find out soon," she says mysteriously.
"Where's Ellie?" I demand.
"You'll see her soon, again don't worry, Kyleigh. We know what we are doing here."
"And what are you doing here?" I ask.
"Oh, hush hush. So many questions. I'm sure all will be clear to you very soon. All you need to know is that you are going to help us in our plans."
"Why would I ever help you? Because you are supposedly the reason I exist, as you said?"
"Precisely, now you're catching on."
"How on earth can you say that? I was struck by lightning. I wasn't some experiment that you created."
"No, but you're the result of an experiment," she reasons.
"How?"
"I suppose there's no reason you shouldn't know. I'll tell you the story."
"Go on, then," I say, ready to hear whatever explanation she has.
"Well, we were testing one of our new pieces of equipment back in May. All you need to know about it is that it was meant to be able to affect the atmosphere and create a thunderstorm within its radius by sending a blast of energy into the sky. The first time we tested the device, it didn't work quite as expected. It created a thundercloud but we weren't able to contain and control it like we had hoped. The cloud we created was blown away by the wind and took its energy with it, eventually releasing its energy through a lightning bolt that found you as its target. Of course we didn't know where the energy from out device went at first, but when you showed up with your storm creating powers, we knew the energy was transferred to you somehow. We had an agent searching and trying to gain information about you as soon as we knew you existed."
"Andrew," I say, knowing the agent.
"Ah, yes," Abigale says. "You're quite well acquainted with Andrew and his little brother aren't you? If I remember correctly, you two are something like lovers?"
"Don't you dare bring him into this conversation," I say, getting furious.
Amused, she says, "Don't worry, we aren't planning to hurt him... yet."
I don't say anything; I simply glare at her with hatred in my eyes.
"Anyway," Abigail continues, "we are extremely fascinated by the abilities you have and the potential we could use them for."
"You could use them? I'd never use my powers to help you."
"You'll be surprised, Kyleigh." Abigale motions for someone to come toward her, and then Vita comes into my field of view. I can actually feel the anger burning inside me when I see the traitor.
I'm surprised when the cell door begins to slide open. Immediately, I prepare to make a break for it, but the moment I have enough space to run out the door, Vita calmly says, "Kyleigh."
I become frozen in place, as if my body has a mind of its own. I face toward Vita and notice a tingling sensation on the back of my neck. The feeling grows stronger and becomes overwhelming. My thoughts become fuzzy and unclear and I find it hard to remember anything about me, anything about the people standing in front of me, anything about where I am. My thoughts are too jumbled for anything to make sense. I don't know anything. Then the blonde haired woman in front of me says, "Come here." I suddenly have no choice but to listen and do as she says. It's the only thing that seems clear in my clouded mind.
"Tell me your name," she says.
One memory in my mind becomes clear. I know my name. "My name is Kyleigh Everson."
"Kyleigh, I want you to create lightning in your hand," the woman says.
I extend my hand in front of me, palm up. I don't know why I do this, but I know this is what she wants me to do. I close my hand into a fist and then flick it open quickly, creating a sparkling ball of electricity. It flickers for a moment before vanishing all on its own. I become dizzy and have to lean against the wall next to me to steady myself.
The blonde woman smiles. "Excellent work, Kyleigh. You're going to be a lot of help to us." The woman next to her tosses a water bottle toward me which I catch with ease. The blonde one says, "Drink up, you'll need your energy for tomorrow." They guide me back into the cell and close the door while I drink every drop in the water bottle. Once the bottle is empty, I don't know what to do. I have nothing to do and my mind is too jumbled and unclear to understand anything. So I simply continue to stand there, doing absolutely nothing.
After what could've been only a few minutes or several hours, I'll never know, I'm able to move again. My brain functions properly and I seem to have control over my thoughts again. I have a massive headache and the back of my neck feels numb and tingly. I need to sit down because of it. I try to remember what just happened, but I can't remember. I feel as if I blacked out for some time. One moment I saw Vita walk toward me and the next, I'm here, alone, with an insane headache.
As the tingling and the headache slowly fade away, I notice an empty water bottle beside me. Confused, I attempt to create a spark in my hand, and I'm surprised at how bright it glows. I'm not dehydrated at the moment.
But I can't remember why.
I have no idea what they are doing to me here.
