8. Tragedy

His phone buzzes. "Maa.." the number flashes on screen. She thinks whether to pick up the call or should she wake him up. She couldn't wake him up of course he needs rest!

She picks up the call. "Hello Dev.... I'm unable to contact Nikki." says Ishwari while Sona decides to stay silent as it'll not sound good to say his mother about the time she's with her son even after being asked to take a leave. "Dev... I know you are busy.... But do anything I want to talk to Nikki right now." she orders and requests at the same time. The call hangs up leaving Sona confused. What should she do now! She hurriedly calls on Nikki's number which obviously remains out of range.

"Dev..." she caresses his cheeks. It was difficult for her as he was just able to grab some sleep. But his family is his priority! "Dev...." she caresses his hair. "Hmm..." He finally responds. "Get up Dev..." unwillingly she wakes him up. But his sleep wasn't letting him to get up. He remains silent while she glances him lovingly. "Dev... It's about your family" her announcing voice makes him to open his eyes. "What happened?" asks he. "Don't panic and don't rather stress out yourself" she advices. "Okay fine. Now tell me what happened?" He was impatient.

She dictates the whole matter and he gets out of the bed. "Oh my God! Nikki!....." He sighs in disappointment. "Dev relax.... Everything will be fine." she consoles.

They've checked all her friends places through calls and drivers. But none of their worth. "Sona I.... I'm... I'm unable to find out anything about my Nikki." He was getting weak emotionally... Though he keeps hope and pushes all his source to get information about Nikki anyhow. "Relax Dev...." the only thing she could do is console him.

It was night. "Dev. Is Nikki home?" asks a voice entering in the house. "Maa!" He was surprised. "Dev..." she calls out. He hurriedly wipes his tears and presents himself before Ishwari. Sona follows him which Ishwari was irked of!

"Where the hell is Nikki?" she yells. "Maa relax.... She'll be back" He consoles her and moreover himself.

It was midnight while he got no clue about Nikki. Ishwari keeps weeping while RadhaRani keeps consoling her. Dev keeps calling everyone who could help him in finding Nikki.

"Here is Nikki...." a voice enters from the entrance. "Neha! Ranveer!" Everyone remains jaw dropped. Nikki rushes and hugs Ishwari to cry. "What happened Nikki?" asks Dev caressing her hair. Meanwhile she keeps crying on Ishwari's shoulder. "What made you this much irresponsible bhai?" yells Neha. "We never wanted your money!!" she was angry. "What had happened?" He was confused while his headache started to irk him.

"Some goons had caught her and......." she stops. "Thankfully we saw her before anything could have happened." Neha's word peirces his heart. Sona remains silent and shocked like every other members.

"Where were you?" He asks. "Bhai actually.... The pocket money.... You gave me was all over... And I... I needed money." says Nikki. "I joined as a receptionist in a hotel...." she adds. "You... You did this for money?" Dev sounds heartbroken. "For money and.... And I.... Wanted to do this job." Nikki hesitantly speaks.

"You should have informed any of us Nikki!" scolds Dev. "I'm sorry bhai. I thought to take a taxi. But the driver was....." And she breaks down again. Ishwari keeps consoling her. Dev sighs in disappointment. He needed someone at the moment to defend him! To hold his hand! To gestures him 'everything will be fine'! But he was all alone. And whom else he wants if Sona is right beside him!!

"But who are you to care?" Neha yells moving towards him. "Why are you backing off your responsibilities?" she was louder. "Why will she handle your work?" she asks pointing at Riya. "And is it all about money! Don't you have enough money to fulfill your sisters desire!! Maa... Where is your best son?" Neha yells. "Let Riya do her work.... We're talking about Nikki for now" He declares. "I'm talking about my sisters" yells Neha. "Just because we don't say anything that doesn't mean you can do whatever you want!!" she spats. Dev was silent and hurt. He can't tell about himself! No he can't. Ishwari was hurt to the most! How can she even think her Dev can back off from his responsibilities?

"From today onwards Riya isn't going to work in your office!!" Neha announces. "Oh just shut up." unexpectedly Dev yells. Ishwari, RadhaRani, Neha, Sona and everyone is shocked. "Now you will give orders to me?" He was louder. "It's my house and it's only me who will take decisions regarding this!!" He declares while Ishwari was out of her words to see him behaving like a devil. "Your decision!!" Neha sounds hurt. "Yes let me remind you!!!" Dev yells. "And I will decide whether Riya will work in my company or not! And whether Nikki will get pocket money or not!!" He adds. Only he knew how hard it's for him to see tears in his beloved sisters eyes. His Maa was so much hurt of his words he can't even imagine!

Suddenly a slap is placed on his cheek. Sona and everyone else looks at Ishwari surprised! "Wow Dev!! This was left apart from all your......." Ishwari feels dizzy meanwhile Neha and Ranveer holds her and takes her to the room.

Dev never wanted all this. It was so painful for him to control his tears. But he has to! His family can't fall weak without him he wanted to make it sure! After examining Ishwari who was laying on bed. Doctor assures about her dizziness because of shock and there's no need to worry. He was helpless in every way. But if he won't do this, his mother might have to go through much more of pain!

"It is Riya's decision." frowns Neha glaring at Dev who was silently peeping inside his Maa's room. He looks at her..... Still with those emotion full eyes! "She will not work in your so called self made company." she fumes. Ishwari remains silent all while Ranveer suggested everyone to let Ishwari grab some rest. Dev knew she was hurt and he's the reason.... Which was so unpredictable in his wildest dreams! He just wished her health not to be hampered.

After a while. Dev's headache grows up and he rushes to his room to let it be hidden from everyone. But Sona follows him. "Dev....." she rushes to hold him before he falls. "Dev relax.... Nothing has happened.... Don't stress yourself" she panics making him sit on bed. He looks at her. "Take deep breathes...." she asks and he keeps doing as she say.

"They... They hate me..." He speaks while she keeps caressing his cheeks sitting beside him. "No one hates you Dev... It is your family." she cups his face. He was still dizzy. "Okay come..." she makes him lay on bed and arranges pillows and blanket. "Ask driver to drop you home...." He says. "Fine now stop talking and sleep." she orders. "Just because you skipped your medicines.... You are feeling weakness. Rest as much as you can" she advices. "My family hates me...." suddenly his headache turns stronger. He holds his head and squeezes his eyes in pain. "Dev.... Please stop overthinking..." she caresses his hair.

She keeps patting him to depart him for sleep. Slowly after a while he sleeps and she too unknowingly sleeps placing her head on his chest. The most melodious sound for her departed her to sleep...... His heartbeats.
