It happened when Katie was asleep. She awoke to a large explosion and smoke seeping through the cracks of the prison door. She put her hand over her mouth and sleepily stood. She made her way to the window. She walked through the smoke and realized that the door wasn't even there. Three aliens awaited her with masks on the other side.
One of them grabbed her arm and ushered her through the halls. She couldn't see the intruders clearly nor could she breathe. The smoke was smothering her and turned her into a coughing fit. She looked towards the obscured figure of her saviors or captors, she didn't know which. Even through her blurry vision she could tell that they were aliens.
They guided her in the space shuttle with a few other galra prisoners. "No need to fret, we are saving you," one of them said. Katie looked up at them as they one by one took off their funny masks.
"Who... exactly are you?" she asked and one of them looked at her.
"We are Freedom Fighters. We fight against those blasted Galra," she said then turned to a freedom fighter with pointy ears and all-blue eyes - the one who had been pulling Katie through the halls. "Te-osh start this thing. They're coming and we're going." Te-osh nodded and kicked the shuttle into drive.
Katie was finally able to see again and breathe properly. She stood and walked over to Te-osh. "Where are we going?" was all Katie asked as she looked out in the space before her. Te-osh side glanced her and smiled.
"To the Freedom Fighter's base of course," the alien said as the ship shook. They were being attacked. "My ship! No!" Galra drones began to shoot at the fleeing ship. Katie looked around. She spotted a planet not to far from where they were. A meteor was also very close to the escaping space shuttle.
"See that meteor? Fly to the other side of it. Do you have something strong enough to push it into a fast acceleration?" she said, easily slipping in command mode. Te-osh went behind the meteor for protection while she thought about it.
"We have nothing that can push it, other then our ship, and that's to dangerous! All we have are blasters," the pilot explained, worry hinting in her voice. Katie took a moment to wrack her brain before ducking below the controls to pull off a panel so she could mess with the wires. "What are you doing!?"
"Trust me. I'm trained in this field," Katie reassured as she fumbled with the wires. She was tired, hungry, and thirsty. Her vision wavered and she couldn't tell which wire was what. Her hands rubbed against her eyes and went back to work. When she finished a few seconds later, she stood. "Hit the blaster."
Te-osh did as she said and aimed the blaster at the meteor. The pilot slammed a green button and a bright light shot from the shuttle to the giant space rock. The rock exploded and created a large dust cloud.
"Now! Head for that planet while they are distracted!" Katie cried and Te-osh headed for the planet as fast as they could. It was dusty and demolished, probably from a Galra attack. They waited a few hours in a cave for the commotion to die out.
"Thank you, what is your name?" Te-osh asked. Katie weighed the two decisions in her brain. She could tell Te-osh her name or tell her a fake.
"I'm Katie Holt," she said, offering a hand. Te-osh shook it.
"Nice to meet you Katie Holt. Do you want to be a Freedom Fighter? We could use your skills and quick thinking," the pilot said. Katie was taken aback. A freedom fighter?
Katie had no clue where she was. She didn't know where home was or even where to begin. All she did know was that she needed a place to stay at while she looked for home and these people saved her.
"No rush now, Katie. But I'd like an answer before we arrive at our proper destination. Now come on, load up in the ship," the alien said as she stood and held out a hand. Katie took it and was pulled off the dry ground. They filed back into the shuttle and carefully flew off.
Katie sat in the back, away from the other prisoners. One of the Freedom Fighters turned to her. "I'm Commander Ozar," he said and offered her a hand. She shook it. "I see Te-osh has offered you a chance to be one of us."
Katie nodded. "Yes, she has. Though, I have a family to return to... but at the same time, I don't know where my home even is. I have a feeling its far, far away. On top of that, I have to find my mother who was also a captive. Though, she was sent off with the weaker captives to be a mule," Katie explained and Commander Ozar nodded.
"If you become a Freedom Fighter you'll have many chances to find your mother and your planet. In truth, I've never seen anyone similar to you. I've never seen your species," he said and left her alone.
The shuttle began to descend to a planet of a beautiful shade of pink. Katie thought about her mother and what she told her last. Then she thought of Matt and her father at home on Earth. Katie pulled out the photo of her and Matt. She didn't know if being a Freedom Fighter was her calling now that she was in space, but she did know that the perks it gave her were too tempting.
She watched the Freedom Fighters unload the supplies of other ships as she and the rest past. Te-osh caught up to her. "Have your decision yet?" Katie stopped walking and looked at the alien then the base.
Katie smiled. "I do have one. I'd love to be a Freedom Fighter. I've seen what the Galra do and heard plenty of it. I'll help stop them and while I'm at it, I'll try to locate my mother and planet." Te-osh offered her a smile.
"That's what I thought. Now come on, let's get your locator. Its how we find other rebel commanders in the field," she said and pulled Katie away.
"I'm instantly a rebel commander?" Katie asked, surprised at the sudden promotion. Te-osh nodded at her question.
"You've earned it with that little stunt back there. Oh, you're going to fix my ship, right?" the pilot asked, remembering Katie's alteration to her ship.
"Yeah. I'll fix it. All I did was enhance the blasters anyway."
Now I'm at the part where I'm guessing what happened XD This much will be inaccurate to the real truth due to the Voltron staff not reviling the past of Matt and the Freedom Fighters. So based on all the information I can dig up, I'll try to fill in the blanks with my own imagination! YEAH!
