Katie patted the fake tombstone that she'd forced her tracker into. She placed a code that only her mother would be able to decode in place of her birthday. It would translate to her coordinates: the place where she'll be hiding.
With a sigh, she glanced around. Neither she nor Te-osh bothered to return to the woeful place after the monument was finished. They gave their respects and never returned. It was a sign of their failure. It was a memory of a worser time.
She began to retrace her steps back to her shuttle in complete silence. Her memories were a blur of before that time, but she did remember a face. Quite a few. Her family and Shiro. She wasn't absolutely sure about the days before the attack since those were the memories that had been fading away, but she remembered everything else with complicate detail.
Entering the shuttle, she shook her head. That was the past. The odds of even seeing them again were almost zero, but she'll hold onto hope. She flew from the planet and to her hiding place with heart in hands. Katie didn't like hiding without telling anyone and starting a one-sided game of hide-and-seek, but she had to for the better good.
She landed on a wrecked planet that held little to no gravitational force. There was a secret hideout she'd been working on. That's where she'll hide. With a solemn expression, she opened the secret door and slid inside. This is where she'll stay until her mother finds her.
Though she'll never give up the fight against the galra.
Matt dodged a sword, it only grazing past him in a blur. The training dummy was a skilled mechanic used to practice against. Currently he was doing just that. His weapon may be cute, but it's deadly. Lance was the first to find that out.
Allura walked in, quietly calling his name. Matt stopped moving and the droid landed a hit on his cheek, blasting him halfway across the room. Allura quickly shut it off. "What is it Allura?" he asked, the pain in his cheek growing. Allura looked it over with worry before answering him.
"I was searching for you. Sorry to distract you while you were training. I was hoping that I could vent a little... I fell asleep in the control room and had an... interesting dream," she said, sadness intertwined with each word.
Matt knew what she meant. Lately her nightmares had been on an incline. While Matt's hadn't come back in a while. "Okay, what happened this time?" he asked and sat down. She followed his action and began to explain.
"I was with my father before the galra attack. W-we were walking among the flowers. I looked away from him for one second to smell a flower and when I turn back, he's gone and I'm in a field of sand. I was sinking and then there was Zarkon, smiling down at me. Suddenly his image faltered and you appeared in some prison clothes. Hagger had her hands wrapped around your neck... and you were crying. I bolted awake then," she replied, her voice shaking. Matt was shocked.
He was in her dream. Not just her father. It was a terrible dream, but it meant he was becoming something special to her. "That's terrible. But hey, look! I'm right here now and I'm not going anywhere," he said and smiled at her. She nodded and wiped away a tear that had fallen.
"Yeah, you are. Thanks," she said and hugged him. Matt rubbed her back. He was about to reply when a voice came from behind.
"Uh, should I leave you two alone?" Shiro called through the doorway as he slowly turned around. "I honestly feel like this is a bad time to mention that we have a mission on our hands." Matt and Allura flew apart and stood, coughing awkwardly.
"Well, let's get a move on then! We have something important to do! Right, Matt?" she nimbly said and walked to the door with an weird smile. Matt nodded and followed her out.
"Right, right! Absolutely! No doubt in my mind that we should be doing this!" he cheered and ran out the room ahead of the two. He felt so awkward and extra sweaty in that situation. They arrived in the commission room where only Coran waited.
Allura and Matt made sure to keep a friendly distance. They had many reasons. One being the suggestive gazes from Shiro every two minutes. He can't wait till they find Katie for two reasons. One being so he could hug the life out of her and two being a distraction for Shiro.
"What's the mission?" Allura asked Coran. The older altean turned to her with a raised eyebrow. He seemed pretty confused to what she meant. "Where is everyone?" Just as she said that Shiro grabbed Matt's arm and dragged him out of the room as quickly as possible.
"What-," Matt was cut off by the man and dragged to the lounging room. Shiro sat down and forced Matt to do so too. For a moment only Shiro's balled up fist shook. Then his entire body began to tremble.
"I didn't know what else to do, but find you. I know you've been helping Allura with her bad dreams and I was hoping you could help me with mine," he said, voice coated in pain. He looked to Matt with the most aching expression he'd ever worn.
From what Matt gathered since the time he showed up, Shiro was strong. A formidable fortress that was hard to shake, much less break down. He's never seen him in pain and barely ever saw a tear roll down his face.
Now right in front of him, the man broke down. Everything shook and his eyes were like waterfalls. "I wanted to go to Keith at first, but he seems tied up with his own problems. I didn't even want to disturb you. Heck, I even turned around and tried to leave, but one flash of her made me go back.... You're like a younger brother and I trust you," he muttered with a shaky voice.
Matt awkwardly patted Shiro's back. "Hey, it is okay. Why didn't you just ask me to talk? I would have left to help... What was that dream even about?" Matt didn't like seeing his future brother-in-law break down. It was weird and strange.
