Jack's P.O.V.
It wasn't long until we had found Matthew practically buried in the snow, but what was bothering me now was the fact that he wasn't moving. Fawn had started crying, and I won't deny that I was worried for him as well. That was why I didn't mind having to carry him home.
I hated the idea of leaving Fawn by herself, but she insisted I leave her. As I flew in the air, trying to hold up Matthew as best as I could, I was aware that the village couldn't see me, but they could see him. Once we got to the village, I tried my best to get him home without him being seen, having to take him through the back door. I knocked on the door and waited for Fawn's mother.
"Jack? What are you doing here? What did you do to my husband?!" she shouted angrily before coughing. "Where's my daughter?!"
She took Matthew from me, expecting an answer as she grabbed a broom. "I'm sorry, but I can't answer your question." Before she could strike, I jumped up into the wind's embrace and said, "you should rest. You don't look so good."
With that, I took off as fast as I could to get back to Fawn, ignoring her mother's insults. I knew that whenever I try to help people, it's never appreciated. There has been several attempts when I had tried to help, but was unable to do much. This shouldn't be any different for me, but for some reason, I felt scared. Why do I feel this way?
Stopping for a bit, I tried to calm down, wrapping my arms around myself as I heard a voice shout out my name. "Jack! Where are you! Jack!" I didn't recognize the voice, but I felt as if I heard it before. "Jack, please be okay."
I looked around, trying to figure out where the voice was coming from, but found nothing. What's going on? Who's calling me? Why does this voice sound so familiar?
Shaking my head a bit, the voices suddenly stopped. I still had no clue what that was, but decided not to think too much about it. I still have to get to Fawn.
As I got back to where I had left Fawn, I noticed something on top of her. Looking clearly, I noticed it was none other than a snow hound. It began growling at me, making Fawn look over. I walked over to her slowly and carefully. Making one of these angry is definitely not a good idea.
"What are you doing playing with a snow hound? I leave you alone for thirty minutes, and come back to find one of these with you." I couldn't hide the fact that I was annoyed from my voice, so I spoke honestly about how I felt.
Fawn sat up and pet the animal, smiling as she looked at me. "He's actually very friendly, Jack. Give him a chance."
"No way. These creatures are a nuisance to keep around." As soon as I stepped closer, the snow hound came at me, but I simply hovered above it. "If they imprint on you, they won't stop following you for anything. They become very protective. Luckily what you have here is only a puppy."
I watched as it continued to growl until Fawn tried her best to pull it away from me.
"There, there, little guy. Jack's a good friend of mine," I heard her whispered, trying to calm it down. "He's not going to hurt me."
The animal seemed to relax enough to let me come down, but I knew it was watching me carefully. As I glared back at it, I looked up to see her laugh.
"Well, it's nice to meet your little friend, but it's time for you to say goodbye. Let's go, Fawn." I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her closer to me. The dog barked some more before whining. "Go home!"
"That's mean, Jack. He's a nice doggy." I ignored her comments as we flew away. I couldn't help but feel annoyed to see the snow hound following us every single time I looked down. "See? He wants to come home with me."
I shook my head no. "You don't get it, Fawn. Your friend down there isn't going to let anyone near you. I doubt it's going to let me do anything with you, and I found this really nice place I wanted to show you." I made a pouty face, wanting to make her laugh, and felt satisfied with her giggle.
To my surprise, she kissed my cheek, making me stare at her with confusion. "You looked super cute, almost like a little boy," she teased.
"Stop it. I'm not a little kid," I couldn't help but smile as I looked back at her. I knew that the snow hound was following us, but I didn't care. I wanted to show her somewhere even more special to me than Frost.
As we continued to fly, I began to hear those voices again shouting out to me. I would be lying to myself if I said I wasn't curious to find out who those voices belonged too. My heart knew those voices, but my mind can't put them together with any faces.
"Jack, is everything alright?" Fawn asked, searching my face for any clues. That's when I realized we had stopped in the air. "Is something wrong?"
I shook my head no as I continued to look around. Feeling as if I was loosing my mind, I looked away from her.
"Jack! Where are you! Come home!"
"Did you hear that?" I asked her, hoping she heard the voices too. She only shook her head no in confusion. "I could have sworn I heard... What's happening to me? Why am I hearing strange voices?"
