Fawn's P.O.V.
I was afraid when Jack had suddenly stopped to stare off in the distance. We were so high up, and the snow hound was right below us, barking as it watched Jack carefully.
"Jack, is everything alright?" I asked as I searched his face for any signs on what he's feeling. "Is something wrong?"
"Did you hear that?" he asked as he looked back at me. I shook my head no, wondering what he was talking about. "I could have sworn I heard... What's happening to me? Why am I hearing strange voices?"
Voices? I didn't hear anything, and even if I did, no one could see Jack. What is he hearing?
"What were the voices saying?" I asked, trying my best to distract myself from the idea of falling to the cold, hard ground. I buried my face into him to keep myself from looking down, but that only made him stare at me. I could feel his eyes on me, making me blush.
"Are you okay? I don't think I've ever seen you act like this before, and I've seen you a lot." I couldn't make myself look at him as my embarrassment grew. "Are you afraid of heights?"
With a simple nod, I answered his question. "I didn't realize just how high we are until you stopped." Taking a chance, I looked up at his face to see him smiling down at me. "You're not planning on dropping me, are you?"
"Of course not. I just think that you look kind of cute when you're scared. " He started flying once again, taking me home. "I guess I'll show you the place next time. You should really get home, so you can take care of your parents."
"Okay," was all I said as my heart began to hurt. I wanted to spend time with him, but I do have to care for Momma and Papa. "Maybe you can stay for a while?"
That made Jack shake his head no. "I can't. Fawn, I'm a child of Frost. I bring winter for people to enjoy, and I'm pretty sure your dad has had enough of my work for now."
"Right. I'm sorry for asking," I couldn't hide my disappointment from my voice. I really wanted to spend more time with him.
"Hey Fawn, don't be sad. It's not like I won't come back for you." He had this big smile on his face as he said, "I'm always going to come see you. I promised you that when you were just a little girl."
I nodded just as he suddenly let me go. Screaming, I looked up to see a mischievous look on his face as he suddenly made a loop in the air and charged for me. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he let me ride on his back. My heart was beating fast from that fear as Jack laughed.
"I'm sorry, Fawn. I just had to." He looked up at me and met my eyes. "How else are you going to get rid of your fear of heights?"
Closing my eyes once again, I hit his head. "That's not funny! That really scared me!"
He continued laughing for a while until we finally got to my home. He landed by the back door, letting me release my hold on him. We stared at each other for a bit before I broke our silence.
"Thank you for helping me find Papa. If there is anything I could do to repay you, just let me know." I stepped closer to him and was about to kiss his cheek again when all of a sudden, the snow hound came running up to us, barking.
As I looked up at Jack, I realized that his cheeks were a light pink as he stared at me. Blinking twice, a smile came back onto his face as he rose into the sky. "Don't worry about repaying me. That's what friends are for, right?"
"Right." I waved goodbye as I pet the barking creature beside me. "Now, what am I going to do with you?"
