"Tara, PLEASE rub lotion on my back. How many more times do I have to ask?" Mia groaned while hiding under her enormous beach hat.
"You should have done it yourself, like I did! Besides we're under an umbrella, why do you need it?" I lounged back and crossed my legs.
"But you're wearing this kaftan thing. I'm just in my swimsuit AND I WANT TO GET OUT OF THIS UMBRELLA!" she yelled.
"Aish, fine," I rolled my eyes, "sit here in front of me and shut up."
She squealed and propped herself in between my legs and I disinterestedly rubbed sunscreen on her back.
"You're so lucky you're tan already," she groaned and I scoffed.
Ro approached us with a frown and sand covering most of her legs.
"Do NOT attempt to bond with Minji over sandcastles," she wailed, glancing behind briefly, "she's the worst," she whispered and sat at the end of the chair.
"Why did you wear this kaftan over your bikini, Tara? Wasn't it like... expensive? Ro questioned.
"Yeah, you spend that much money on two scraps of material, I'd think you'd want to show it off!" Mia added.
"yeah, I would've. Just that... we came to the beach. And I was worried about like allergies and stuff... had we gone to the pool, I would've- not- you know," I explained, "besides, the kaftan is nice, too, so why not." I lied smoothly. Self-five!
"You're so extra, Tara," Mia laughed.
"Oh, look, the boys are here," Ro pointed out.
"Oh, yay," I muttered, patting Mia's back, "you're done."
"Thanks, girl," she put on her shades.
"OOOOH, FANCY!" I screamed, "I'm gonna go to the bar. Do you want anything?"
"Like a Pina Colada or something," she shrugged.
"Basic bitch," I muttered and she laughed and I made my way down to the bar.
I tapped my fingers restlessly on the bar waiting for the drinks, having left my phone with Mia. Just when my hands wrapped around the cool Pina Colada and Bay Breeze before me, a man slid next to me, practically breathing down my neck.
"Hi, miss, can I buy you a drink?" he slurred. Oh, great.
I smiled curtly, "no, thank you, already got two." I held up my drinks and turned around, making for the exit.
He stepped in between it.
"Well, what's one more?" he smiled, reaching out a hand, god knew what for. Luckily, I didn't find out.
"If she wants one more she'll get one more," a voice growled. I turned to see Jimin glaring at the man.
"Back off," he sneered, putting one hand on my lower back and then leading me away. The random dude held his hands cup and backed away, muttering some excuse under his breath.
Jimin was seething. I could feel it. Once we walked a couple of steps, I opened my mouth.
"You don't have to do that, you know. I would've been okay, so, like, you don't have to protect me or whatever."
He halted, held my hips to keep me from walking.
"I know, but I want to. I can't stand all these men ogling at you," he fiddled with the hem of my kaftan, "if it wasn't for this little thing and you were wearing just what I can see underneath it, rest assured, I would gouge out every mans' eyes out on this beach. Or woman. Whatever."
"That's... worrisome," I breathed.
"Truly," he took one of the drinks and led us back to our people.
"I had to wear it. Thanks to you and your... artwork." I blushed.
"My artwork? My- Oh! Oh, really?" his eyes widened and he stepped forward, attempting to hook a finger around the collar of my kaftan, "let me see."
I took a step back, "No- what? What are you doing, someone will see us!" I nudged him away.
I continued walking, "I couldn't cover them up with makeup because what if it washed off in the water? And I certainly couldn't do nothing because then everyone would know I was up to something," my voice lowered, "so I just- it was the best option."
"Does it hurt?" he asked earnestly.
"No, not really. It's just... prominent," i sighed.
"Well, then I like it," he held one end of my loose kaftan in his hand while we walked, leaning in "This little thing, too. It protects what's mine."
"Jimin," I whispered, looking down.
"Hmm?" he turned around.
"What happens now?"
"Now we go drink some alcohol and swim in the ocean, doll," he smiled.
I rolled my eyes, "what happens now, after we go back?"
"I don't know," he smirked, running his thumb along my bottom lip, "but I'd love to find out." I trembled. Me too.
I think.
