Song: Ed Sheeran - Perfect
Through your young eyes, you saw a vast expanse leading to the lofty, snow- capped mountains. Trees were rustling with the wind, highland grass and flowers dancing, the sun shining warmly over your head.
Your hair and your little pink dress flew with the wind as you stood barefoot on the grass. As you gazed at the beauty of God's creation, a hand held yours. Turning to your left, you saw your favorite person.
Arthur.
You were five and he was seven, yet both of you were such good friends. Both of you lived near the mountains with your families living close next to each other. Every day was wonderful, fun and exciting.
"Do you want to play in the river?" he asked, his beautiful green eyes shining brightly.
"Yeah!" you exclaimed and off both of you ran to the river, hand in hand, with smiles on your faces.
Life was a dream, but not for long.
Soon after you turned twelve, you father had financial problems. Selling vegetables and fish in the market didn't seem to make ends meet. Soon, he decided to leave home and work in the city.
After that, your house seemed to be so lonely. Your mother hadn't told you that your father was being mistreated because he came from the country side. But you knew, from secretly reading the letter he had sent.
You became even more sad and unhappy than you were. You loved your father and he didn't deserve the dishonor and ridicule he was getting. You felt powerless.
On one fine day, you excused yourself, wandered to the grasslands and sat under a tree. They day was beautiful and bright, yet it didn't uplift your spirits even a little. You hated being worried and sad, and yet, here you were.
"What's wrong?" asked a familiar voice. You turned around and found Arthur there, standing straight and tall, with a soft smile on his face.
"Nothing." You mumbled and rested your chin on your knees as you hugged your legs tight. Arthur sat down next to you, shoulder to shoulder.
"Come on, tell me. You're bad at hiding things." He grinned and you managed to smile a little.
"My mother told me that after I turn thirteen, we will be moving to the city." You said and that was enough for his smile to falter a little.
"Isn't that wonderful?" He exclaimed, "You'll have a much more comfortable life, won't you?"
"That may be true, but you won't be there!" you raised your voice, "I don't want to be anywhere without you!"
"Hush." He wrapped his arm around your shoulder while you felt tears run down your cheeks, "It's okay. Life is long and the time we spend far apart from each other is but a small amount."
"Cities are big, busy and bustling, and it's easy to get lost there. But no matter how lost you may be, I will come and find you." He smiled, "And when I do, we will be together forever."
"You will?" you sniffed and he wiped away your tears.
"Cross my heart." He promised and gently kissed your cheek.
Months passed since then, and finally it was time to bid the Kirkland family goodbye. You took one last look at the house you lived in for so many years. Before you finally left, Arthur pulled you behind his house and hugged you tight.
You knew he was sad and you could feel it. When he pulled away, he wiped his eyes quickly. Was he crying? You've never seen him sob or cry.
"____, before you leave, I want to tell you this." He looked at you in the eye and you waited for him to say what he wanted to say.
