Another day dawned and you were at the palace, accompanying the princess, Chun Yan around. She was quite petite, small, and cute, which was a major charm.
You worked as a knight for the king, but you were given the duty of protecting the princess. Not that you hated it; it actually felt like a blessing was bestowed upon you.
She usually had a lot of things to say and it never ended. You thought her ramble was cute and you listened to her carefully. Because of that, you knew a lot about her.
One fine day after her tutoring, you were walking in the garden and talking with her. While she was excitedly telling me about what she studied in botany, she looked forward and suddenly, her legs froze and her face paled.
"Quick, hide me!" she hurriedly hid behind you, grabbing your clothes tightly.
You looked forward and found her annoying cousin, Yong Soo. His mother, who is the Chinese king's sister, married the king of the Korean kingdom and therefore, Chun Yan and Yong Soo were related.
Sighing, you turned to her, put your hand at her upper back, and gently led her elsewhere. She had told you how much she disliked her cousin.
She always called him a lunatic and tried to avoid him at all costs. She couldn't even openly tell anyone (except you) that she didn't like him. He was younger than the princess, but since he was a noble, she couldn't disrespect him.
Both of you went to another part of the garden and Chun Yan breathed a relieved sigh. Indeed, it was quite taxing for her to avoid someone, being a very social person.
"Thank you." she smiled at you, making you nod shyly.
----
Both you and the princess had sat in the garden almost all day, and now, the sun was setting. Before Chun Yan could say another word, an apprentice soldier, who you knew as Huang came up to you.
"____, His Highness has sent for you." He said.
"Alright, I'll be there." You nodded, "Will you stay with the princess for now?"
"Of course." Huang smiled. I pulled him aside for a moment and whispered,
"If you see Lord Yong Soo anywhere near, make sure you take the princess somewhere else."
"Understood." He nodded.
"I'll be back soon, princess." You smiled at Chun Yan, who nodded shyly.
You reluctantly walked away.
As you strode down the filled with worried thoughts. Lately, it's not just Yong Soo who has been a threat to Chun Yan. There were the Czars from Russia, and the Japanese from the East too.
While the Czars were rather tranquil, the Japanese kept sneaking into the Palace and trying to either murder the king or the princess. As far, many of the soldiers were injured doing their job, and of course, the impostors were captured and killed.
Even though the security here was tight, you still couldn't help but worry.
----
When your business with the king was done, you walked out of the courtroom, sighing. You looked out at the sky. The sun had set completely and the full moon was shining brightly, canceling out all the starlight.
"This took longer than I had anticipated." You mumbled to yourself as you gripped the sword that was at your waist.
Suddenly, you heard a shrill scream. Dashing to the source of the scream, you found yourself in the garden. Some assailants had tried to attack the princess by shooting arrows.
