Song: Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe

One hour had passed.

One and a half hour passed.

Two hours passed.

He still didn't show up.

As you sat down in the restaurant waiting for your Tinder date, you pursed your lips in worry and looked at your watch. It was already half past eight in the evening and there was no sign of him anywhere when you looked out the large windows.

You were practically a factory of sighs at that moment. Thinking of how much time and care you took to dress up, you felt anger and sadness pile into a large heap inside you.

The waitress had already come up to you twice asking if you were ready to order and every time you'd say,

"My date is just late. I'll order when he arrives."

The other customers and staff looked at you pitifully and you couldn't help but hang your head down, slump your shoulders, and sigh. Every minute passed by slowly and caused you to deflate.

Pulling out your phone, you went through the texts you sent him earlier. They weren't even read.

You looked at the call log and saw the sheer number of calls. He didn't even pick them up. Hell, the stock voice had said that his phone was probably switched off. Ridiculous!

Stuffing your phone back in your bag, you were ready to leave. The sympathetic gazes of everyone in the restaurant were driving you nuts and you were so sure that you would dig a hole and bury yourself alive next thing.

You couldn't believe he stood you up like that and wasted your time!

Just as you were about to stand up, a guy you didn't know came up running to your table and sat down in front of you, wiping the beads of perspiration off his forehead.

He had messy blond hair, blue eyes, slightly tanned skin, and was wearing a baseball jacket over a white t-shirt. He was well built and looked sturdy, way better than the guy you were going to meet.

You looked at him dumbfounded with an open mouth.

"Babe, I'm so sorry I'm late!" he looked at you apologetically, "The traffic sucked big time."

You closed your mouth and gulped. Before you said anything more, he leaned in closer and whispered, giving you a cute smile,

"I'm Alfred. I could see that your date, a loser, clearly ditched you so I thought I could play the hero and save the night. Won't you play along?"

You stifled a grin and nodded. Even though you just met him, you felt like you could trust him. He smiled back and stole a quick glance at you from top to bottom, and smiled wider.

"You look stunning, by the way. I love your outfit," his eyes glittered, "and the way you did your hair is just... Wow!"

You blushed at the intensity of his compliments and thanked him, face glowing with joy.

The other customers, seeing that you were smiling, looked away and resumed their business, and the waitress assigned to your table came with two menus in hand, grinning widely at you.

You ordered your favourite dish and drink and Alfred ordered a coke and a bucket of fried chicken for both of you to share.

Both of you had a wonderful conversation to get to know each other and you were convinced that Alfred was infinitely better than the loser you were going to meet. You enjoyed listening to him talk incessantly about UFOs and aliens, Clint Eastwood, the Wild West where he was from and what not.

Even better was that he was very courteous to you and understanding, so much to the point that you were moved to tears!

When the sumptuous dinner was done, Alfred footed the bill and both of you walked out of the restaurant, laughing about some reckless stunt he did which got his bones broken. You loved that he was so easy to talk to.

While both of you waited outside in the cool night for a cab, you saw that Alfred was quite unusually shy.

"What's wrong, Alfred?" you asked, already loving the way his name rolled off your tongue.

"Uh..." he blushed and then started singing softly, "Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy. But here's my number, so call me maybe,"

He then held out a piece of paper with his number written on it.

That was it. You were done. You officially had a crush on this adorable dork.

He watched you as you laughed till your sides hurt. The whole time, he only nervously pursed his lips, wondering if he made a wrong move.

"Gosh," you sighed after your giggling fit was over, "You're so cute."

It was Alfred's turn to blush now.

You took the paper in his hand and saved the number in your phone. Taking out a pen and piece of paper, you too wrote down your number and gave it to him, smiling as you sang,

"So call me maybe!"
