I looked to Lydia as Malia shot up. "He's not dead. I think I know what's wrong," Lydia said pushing herself to her feet. "Ar-uh-o-okay," I stammered. "We need to get to an MRI," Lydia said. "I"ll get Melissa," I said. They nodded and I walked over to the ER's front desk. Ange's mom looked up from her monitor. I could feel the panic rise up in my chest as she gave a concerned look similar to Natalie's. "Hey, you guys get anything," Melissa asked in a hushed voice. "Sort of. Is there any MRI rooms that are closed for a while," I asked. "Teej," she started. "Halwyn isn't completely gone," I whispered. She sighed and wrote a room on my hand. "There's spare scrubs in the morgue put them on and wear the face masks to get him there," she whispered, "And do not get caught." I nodded and rushed back.

After relaying the information to the other two, we quickly changed and Malia and I transferred him to the stretcher as Lydia held it still. We wheeled Halwyn under a sheet trying to avoid all other people. I closed the doors to the machine behind us. They took off their masks. "Step one complete," Lydia said. "Now how do we turn this thing on," Malia asked. Lydia held up her phone, "We read the manual." "You mean, you read the manual and we hope you don't mess up," I countered. I helped Malia put Halwyn on the MRI bed.

I stood between Lydia and Malia and watched her read through the manual on her phone before pressing away at the buttons. The bed moved in and the scan started. I looked to Malia impressed. "Don't people spend years learning how to do that," I asked. Lydia nodded. "Look. See the image artifacting," Lydia said pointing to the screen, "That means the bullet's ferromagnetic. Probably steel. It'll react in the MRI. We'll increase the magnet's power and the machine will pull the bullet right out," she said. I watched the image, seeing something trying to focus. "Ready? It could get messy," Lydia asked looking to us. "I've seen messy. Go for it," Malia said. "Wait," I cut in grabbing Lydia's hand. "What's that," I asked pointing to the white flecks.

Lydia looked closer. "We can't do this," she said. "What are you talking about," Malia asked. "It's not just steel. See those fragments around it," Lydia asked, "That's silver. The bullet was coated with it. Silver won't react in the MRI. We pull that bullet out and he'll start to heal." "So? Healing's good right," Malia asked. I turned to Malia after Lydia paused. "Normally yeah, but he's a hellhound. He'll start to heat up," I explained. Malia still looked lost. "He heats up and the silver melts and it'll seep right into his brain," Lydia added. "What's a little silver," Malia asked. "Argyria. Silver poisoning. With no way of getting it out. I can't even flush it with what healing water I have left," I answered. "So if we take out the bullet, he dies again," Malia realized. "Okay, you two figure out what we're going to do I'll go out and stand watch," I said. They nodded.

I kept the mask up and to hide my phone and pretended to be on a phone call as I watched for people. I nodded to a passing nurse and my heels of my feet couldn't stop bouncing from the anxious impulse to run. All the lights in the hall went out and I slipped inside locking the doors behind me. "What the hell did you do," I hissed. Halwyn stood up radiating heat as the lights flickered back on. "Where is it," he growled. He staggered forwards and they helped him to the floor. "What's happening," he asked. "The anukite is destroying our town that's what's happening," Malia said. I looked to Lydia concerned. "We need you to tell us how to kill it," Malia continued. "Malia," Lydia called. "Does it have any weaknesses? Is there a weapon we can use," she continued. No purple or grey tint to the skin yet but there was silver melting out of his nose. "Malia," I said to get her attention. Halwyn wiped his lip and looked at it. "What did you do to me," he asked.

"We tried to save you," I started. "Save me from what? I'm dying anyways," he said mad. "We need your help. We need to find out how to stop it," Malia pleaded. "You can't stop it. You can't kill it," he explained. "You did," Lydia pointed out. "I trapped it," he corrected. "How do we do that," I asked. "Don't let it find it's other half," he started. He knows he's on borrowed time. "How do we know it didn't find it already," Lydia asked. "Because you wouldn't be alive to tell me," Halwyn said. I watched as the silver was rejected by his body. I could feel his internal organs shutting down by the pressure shift of water in his system where I was holding him up. "Listen to me," he snapped after insisting that all we could do was keep the two halves apart, "If it does find it's other half. Do not look."
