|THE WORST PALADIN|

"Lance! What the hell? You call yourself the teams sharpshooter and then go and pull a stunt like that!?" Keith roared.

"I- I didn't mean for her to get hit-"

"Lance, it doesn't matter if you didn't mean for it to happen. If you were in position this wouldn't have happened." Shiro explained.

Lance looked over at the healing pod that you were inside and blue lights pulsed around the gunshot wound in your shoulder.

"I'm sorry, I'll work harder next time!"

Shiro crosses his arms and gave Lance a stern look. "Good, because we don't need something like this happening again."

"Or we'll get Allura to pilot your lion. Blue is the most accepting, she could probably do it." Keith added.

Lance nodded and felt a large lump forming in his throat. "Understood." He mumbled, and left the others, making his way to his room.

"I'm replaceable." He thought.

"Just a burden."

A gust of cold air hit your face and you felt yourself falling forward until two arms wrapped around you.

"Welcome back."

You looked up to meet Shiro's eyes and everyone stood behind him. . . well, everyone but Lance.

"What happened?" You asked. "Last thing I remember is a gun being pointed at me and-" your eyes shot around the room. "Where's Lance?"

Keith cocked a brow. "Lance? Why do you want to see him? He's the reason you were shot."

"No, I'm the reason I was shot. I wasn't paying close enough attention to my surroundings and left myself open. If Lance hadn't intervened and changed the trajectory of the shot, I'd be dead."

Everyone cast their gazes to the floor, looks of guilt written on their features.

"Did you guys seriously not know that?"

No one answered you and that alone answered your question.

"Where is he?"

"Either in his room or training, why?" Keith asked.

"Because all of you probably reamed him for getting me injured, right?" No one said anything so you continued. "So someone needs to let him know that he's actually a valued member of the team and tell him he did a good thing."

You stormed out of the room, still dressed in the white body suit from the healing pod but that didn't matter, you had to find Lance.

The first place you check was his room. You opened the door without knocking, only to find the space empty and oddly clean for a teenage boy. Next was the training deck, but he wasn't there either.

"Where could he have gone?" You thought, and just as you did a soft meow echoed in your head.

Blue.

As quickly as your wobbly, fresh out of the healing pod legs could take you, you made your way to the hanger and walked up to the blue lion.

"Hey, Blue." You said, resting a hand on the particle barrier that caged the lion inside. "Is Lance in there?"

Blue didn't make a sound but her eyes flashed yellow for a split second, and you took that as a yes.

"Can you let me in so I can see him? I know he's hurting, I want to help him."

There was a pause before the barrier flickered away.

"Thanks, Blue".

You ran up the ramp but stopped just outside the cockpit when you heard Lance's voice coming from inside.

"It was my fault, Blue. She got hurt. I may as well have pulled the trigger, but I could have done more to help. Maybe Allura should pilot you, then at least someone worthy of being a paladin would be your pilot, right?"

Anger twisted in your gut and sadness gripped your heart. Was this really how Lance felt? He thought he wasn't worth being a paladin? He thought your injury was his fault?

"Are you an idiot?"

Lance whipped around in his chair and looked at you as you stormed into the cockpit.

"(Y-y/N)!"

"You're such an idiot! I was about to be shot straight through the heart! The gun was pointing right here, Lance!" You yelled, pointing at your chest as tears started to stream down your face. "I thought I was going to die right in that moment, but because you helped, I'm standing here right now. I don't know anyone who is better suited to be the pilot of the blue lion or a paladin of Voltron than you."

Lance stared at you for a moment before shaking his head. "I'm glad you think so, but the others don't. They think Allura should pilot Blue."

Rage ripped through your body and you spun Lance's seat around so he was facing you and caged him between your arms.

"I'll deal with them later! For now, I need you to know that you are one of the strongest, smartest, most handsome and brave people I know! Blue chose you! Not Keith, not Shiro, not Allura, you!"

"You think I'm handsome?" Lance whispered.

You laughed and let your arms drop. "Out of everything I said, that's all you paid attention to?"

Lance stood up and cupped your face in his large hands. "That's all that mattered to me."

Lance leaned down and pressed his lips firmly against yours. You instantly kissed back, working your mouth against his passionately, letting your hands roam over the lean muscles along his back.

After a minute you both pulled away. "So what now?" Lance asked.

"Now? Now I go whoop some paladin ass for making you think you weren't a good enough paladin." You said, and moved to leave.

Lance caught your arm and spun you back around, wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into his chest.

"Thank you." He whispered.

"Anything for my handsome sharpshooter."
