|BLACK AND WHITE|

You sat with your back against the edge of your bed, a sketch book resting in your lap. Enjoying the rare time you had alone, you mindlessly sketched the outline of a face.

"(Y/N)?" A voice said from the outside of your door.

"Come in."

Your door slid open and Lance walked in.

"Hunk said dinner's ready and-" he stopped talking when his eyes landed on the drawing in front of you. "Did you draw that?"

You nodded. "Yeah, but it's just a rough sketch right now."

Lance sat on your bed and looked over your shoulder. "Your idea of a rough sketch and my idea of a rough sketch are very different."

"I'll take that as a compliment."

You closed your book and laid it on the floor next to you before standing up. "Anyway, you said dinner's ready?"

Lance nodded and the two of you left your room, walked down the corridor towards the dinning hall.

"Hey, can you like, draw people you haven't seen?"

You hummed and looked up at the boy walking next to you. "If I got a detailed description, I don't see why I couldn't. Why?"

Lance shook his head. "Nothing. No reason."

"If you want me to draw someone for you, all you have to do is ask."

Before he could answer, the two of you reached the dinning room and Lance walked to his seat at the table, not saying a word.

You couldn't help but notice how down and sad he looked, and the usually happy and cheerful Lance didn't say a single word throughout the whole dinner.

Once dinner was over, you helped Hunk clear the plates from the table. Now, you were seated on one of the bar stools while Hunk cleaned the kitchen.

"Can I ask you a question?" You spoke out of the blue.

"Go ahead." Hunk answered.

"Has anyone close to Lance ever died? Or something like that?"

Hunk looked surprised by your question but answered anyway. "I don't think so? I know his abuela was getting sick when we were back on Earth, but other than that nothing. Why?"

"Earlier he asked me if I could draw people I've never seen. I have a feeling he wants me to draw someone for him but was too shy or embarrassed to ask. I was just curious if he had someone he missed."

Hunk put away the last plate and faced you. "Lance is very family oriented. He's the kind of guy that doesn't love anything more than spending time with his siblings and would skip out on plans with friends to spend time with his grandparents. I think he just misses them and is scared he'll start to forget what they looked like since he doesn't have a picture, you know?"

"Then why doesn't he just ask me to draw them for him? I'd be happy to."

Hunk shrugged.

The two of you sat in silence for a moment before you spoke up once again. "Could you describe his family to me?"

Looking shocked, Hunk nodded. "I guess. My descriptions of them probably won't be the best, but I can try."

You grinned. "Perfect! Let me grab my sketch book and we'll get started!"

You looked down at the book in front of you. Ten faces you didn't recognize were sketched out across the page and Hunk was squinting at them.

"I think Veronica's glasses are more rectangular than that." He said.

You erased the edges of one of the girls glasses and redrew them with sharper corners. "Better?"

Nodding, Hunk grinned. "Better. I think it's perfect!"

"Thanks, Hunk! I'm gonna go give it to Lance now!"

You signed the bottom corner of the picture and carefully tore it out of your sketchbook before running through the castle to Lance's room. Once outside, you felt butterflies in your stomach.

What if he didn't like it? What if you and Hunk were completely off and Lance didn't recognize any of the people you drew?

Taking a deep breath, you knocked on the door.

"One sec-" Lance said, then a moment later his door slid open.

"(Y/N)? What's up?"

You held the picture close to your chest. "I drew something for you."

Lance looked slightly surprised. "You did?"

"I did. But you have to promise not to get mad if you don't like it!"

Lance's surprise turned into confusion. "Of course I won't get mad."

You looked at the floor, not wanted to see his reaction, and handed him the drawing.

There was a long, silent pause before two arms wrapped around your shoulders and you were pulled into a bone-crushing hug.

"How did you-"

"Hunk helped me out." You said, hugging back the blue paladin.

Lance pulled away and looked at the picture once again, a smile on his face and a glisten in his eyes.

"I love it. I don't know how to tell you how happy I am."

You smiled. "I'm glad you like it."
