I can't. I... I'm not ready for this. It shouldn't end that way. It can't end like that...
"Amy?" Dan's anxiously holding my shoulders. He has the right to be, I don't blame him, but he increases my anxiety.
"Can you... give a few minutes?" I ask just as he sets me free from his grip.
"I knew you would want that. I'll be waiting for you right here. I won't move." He says gently before kissing my forhead after a tight hug. A hug I needed more than anything.
I answered with a weak smile and turned to where I saw the stairs case for the last time. Hand along the wall, I climbed the stairs slowly and opened the door to a dark world. I fell on my knees wrapped by fear, anxiety and sadness. Phoenix ran to me as if someone shot me. She put her front paws on my chest. She knew. Feeling her tongue on wet cheeks draws a light newborn smile on my face. Weak, small, powerless... That's how I feel against the world. I don't even know I can be useful in that situation. I have to. I need to, but how?
Ève has always helped me a lot in my dark situations. She would text me and ask me how I'm doing or have been doing when I needed it the most even today. She called me around four AM wondering how if I was still awake.
"It's so boring in that hotel! What were you at?" She asked. Speaking English with her brings me back to the old days when we met. "Are you okay?" She, then asked worried by my silence. "Amélie?"
"My grandmother's dying, Ève. My grandfather needs support and assistance and I can't evwn get across the street without risking and accident. My parents left for a few days in the woods near Lac-Mégantic and my uncle isn't available for now. I'm his only hand and I can't help much..."
"Oh my God! Do you want me to come see you?"
"Don't bother, Dan's here..."
"No, I'm coming. You won't change my mind. I know you. You won't ask him for help. Didn't you push him away when he tried to help you? I'm sure he doesn't even know yet. Am I wrong?"
"You're not..."
"Then I'm coming and I'm texting him. He shouldn't feel left out. He needs a hint on your depressive methods."
"Suit yourself. Knowing now or later doesn't ready matter to me."
"Don't act that detached we both know what ot represents to you."
"Yeah, yeah... whatever."
She hung up laughing. She really wants us to wait for her. Oh, well...
"Do you know that you're really noisy?" Asks Dan mockingly.
"Euh..."
"Ève told me. I get it, you don't wanna look weak. But you also know that you need other's help more than everything. You just don't want to bother asking 'cause you don't thing it's worth being cared of and a demanding friend."
"I didn't think she would tell you this much."
"She didn't. I just know it."
"How?" He's getting closer.
"Living with you made me realize how alike we are. You're acting the exact same way as I was before I met you."
"You never told Ash about it? How you were feeling, how you needed help?"
"I didn't have too because he was there the entire time and knew how hard it was for me. I guess, I just didn't have a friend like Ève who forces you to be helped. He's the best don't get me wrong, but..."
