That was it. A vague, short and really important voice mail that shook everyone in less than thirty seconds. We need to move if I don't want to have blood on my hands. Well, our hands. I'm used to be corrected by others. It's weird to correct myself. Brandon's driving his car while Dan's holding me in his arms. Head on his shoulder, I'm trying to contain stress and fear. My heart is pounding and every pound is painful like a stabbing knife in my breast. Failing to contain tears and fear, I'm silently crying as we're heading to the hospital as fast as we can.
"It hurts."
"To know that we can lose her." Since he probably turned to me, he knows that I negatively shook my head. "Tell me."
"Every heart beat is heavy and is hurting me like stabs."
"Please don't faint. I couldn't handle the situation if you left me now." As I center all my energy to take his hand and tightly handle it, I manage to find the words to comfort him.
"I won't if you make sure that I can have a wheelchair. I feel dizzy."
"I'll do better than that."
When we arrived, Dan took me in his arms and rushed in the emergency entrance. Stressed and breathless, he explained briefly the situation and nurses called the pediatric floor to make sure they're all set when we arrive. They cleared the way for Dan to run with me in his arms and made sure I'd be hospitalized while blood will be transferred.
Luckily, Thea's baby's blood type was A+ like mine. Therefore, the blood transfer was possible. She had to be operated as soon as possible and there wasn't enough A+ blood on the floor. For some reason, the blood bank was all frozen and time was running too short to wait until enough blood get liquid again. I didn't notice the needles and the blood draining down the tubes. Almost unconscious, I was feeling weak and couldn't speak. I still don't know what happened to me. Perhaps it's about that health issue Dan was worried about.
I'm laying in an hospital bed. Again. Dan is laying on the door frame and is breathing heavily.
"Hello, beautiful." He says breathless.
"Why do you sound so exhausted?"
"I wanted to keep an eye on you while I was watching our girl."
"You mean that..."
"Since I couldn't stay with you, they lead me to the pediatric surgeon supervisor. He explained me that the surgery has started before we arrived and that it was a perfect timing. We stepped on the pediatric floor just when they were about to be out of blood. You saved her, Amy."
"We saved her."
This moment probably is one the best moments I'll ever have with him. As a way to approve and show his gratitude, Daniel just came to me like a kid who was excited to get to bed on the night the Tooth Fairy would come. He almost jumped on my bed, which made me jump, then laugh as if I was having a moment of dementia.
"Mind if I join you?"
"Of course not. It seems like you've got an energy boost." He got the closest he could be, loving himself on my cold body. Leaning his head on my shoulder, he's taking long and slow breaths before kissing my shoulder and my neck. Life is spreading in my body as his heat is transferred to me by this body to body contact.
"I'm glad... for you. Otherwise, I'd havr to declare you war to get to the bed."
"Luckily for you, I accepted."
"Are you assuming that you'd win?"
"Maybe?" I say smirking.
"Oh, really?" He says teasingly.
