The conference seemed to last a life time, and not in a positive sense, but eventually it drew to a close and Paul ran out like a stunned deer. Before she knew it, Amelia rushed out too to find him on the top of the tall spiral staircase. It was a beautiful sight causing her to take a quick snap before she made her way up to him. She'd never seen him so enthusiastic in her whole time she knew him and realised that this was going to be special.
"Please, do make yourself comfortable" he said opening the door with his right hand as he held the record in his left and more dominant hand.
"Thank you kindly" she replied sitting on the edge of a bed of what seemed to be a master bedroom that was rather grand.
Paul sat on the arm chair opposite as he fumbled around with the needle on the record player.
"Now," He said before the music started "just do whatever you feel when you hear this" and dropped the needle.
The music faded in, the sound of what sounded a bit to her like a fun fair that she went to as a child. The drums kicked in at a steady pace but then Paul's powerful voice pushed its way through. It gave her that kind of sensation that just makes you grin uncontrollably. It was definitely different.
Very different.
She wanted to clapped her hands overjoyed with the new sound that had some how been created but was afraid to miss any slight detail in the song. Amelia adored how the songs flowed into one another and was completely captivated.
Then began Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds and it got her good.
The mellotron ringing throughout the melody accompanied with Johns slightly hypnotic tone, which was totally new to her, complemented each other in such a perfect way. It took her on a journey and feared for a moment that she would never leave. The chord progression was unique changing from an A then shifting to a B flat in the bridge and then a G in the chorus, fitting for the journey concept she had discovered.
Getting Better was a great come down track after the previous faded out into the abyss and Paul could tell that she was particularly taken back by that one. They progressed through the rest of the album with no talking just marinading in the music, was there anything more perfect?
Fixing a Hole actually caused her to snigger slightly and found it oddly humours by its cleverness and Paul's intellect. He had told Amelia earlier when they were conversing about the making of the record that George had become frustrated at the number of times Paul re-recorded vocals for this number and she could understand why. Not that anyone else could but she did, it had to be perfect otherwise it wouldn't be fixed.
The distinguished sound of a harp echoed through the master bedroom where she became flushed at the beautiful noise. Harps were precious in her eyes and Paul knew this obviously. The lyrics were what hit her the hardest, although the melody was absolutely incredible she couldn't but feel this had hit home for her. He had told her in their chat that She's Leaving Home was inspired by Amelia mother and her story of when she was young. This caused a tear to fall lifelessly down her face as she endured the last section of the song as she stared into space almost in a trance. Paul did nothing but gaze at her and couldn't help but feel that this was perfect. He had managed to create something that she could connect with in such a way and knew that he had won her heart back. When the song drew to a close she took a long glance at Paul, long enough before the next track commenced, as if say "Congratulations, you have done it".
The fun fair atmosphere was resurrected once Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite! began. This was another one that made her smile at Johns lyricism as she was mesmerised once again by his obscure subjects. Paul had also told her earlier that the song Within You Without You was a result of George and Patties spontaneous trip to Mumbai. It was clear to Amelia that George had discovered a new passion and was open to this concept. It was an obscure rhythm to her because she wasn't used to Indian-influenced music, but oddly she liked it. The vocals were grasping to say the least and flew her to a western world.
Soon after a familiar sound of a clarinet rang through the room as When I'm Sixty Four began. The song made Amelia feel cosy and warm and could instantly picture the scene that Paul was singing so beautifully too her, well through the record technically. But he couldn't bring himself to look at her, almost as if he was ashamed or embarrassed of his desires and emotions. He walked to the window and lit a cigarette blowing into dusk. She focused on the story that was playing and smiled at his fantasies for each other. This song had Amelia's name written all of over it and knew that it was penned during their relationship.
Paul was still leaning against the railing outside of the French doors when Lovely Rita commenced. A sudden impulse told Amelia to dance and so she did. The rhythm carried her to his side as she tugged at his sleeves to follow her lead. He was surprised for a short moment but then carelessly threw his cigarette into the night, and probably the street below, and joined her. They waltzed and swayed to the song still taking in all that it was connoting to her. He spun her and lead her until they were repetitively gliding around the room. Amelia praised the lord for no one discovering or interrupting their special moment and became fearful of the inevitable end. She was taken away with the music and so was Paul feeling as if they were floating amongst the clouds.
Good Morning Good Morning quickly brought them back to earth just as the clock stroke one. Amelia was baffled by her lack of fatigue at this late hour but didn't spare too much time to ignore the song. They flew themselves onto the bed sinking into the mattress as she glanced over to Paul's foot that was tapping to the contagious beat. Apparently, according to Paul's account, John was inspired by the Cornflakes advert on the television when writing the number. That was the other thing that Amelia envied about John, he could write about anything and make it work.
Soon enough, the previous song flowed nicely into the Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Reprise thinking that the album was about to end. A sickening feeling of dread grew large in Amelia's throat as she thought about what would happen next.
However, this phase didn't last long when A Day In The Life started. What a way to end an album, she thought yo herself as the second part of the songs arrived. The whole concept of the lyrics was something so captivating that Amelia just sat up and stared into space letting her imagination wonder. Paul sneakily took her camera out of her bag that was hung on the poster of the bed and took a quick shot of her in this scene. He thought that there was nothing so beautiful that he had ever set eyes on other than her. She didn't even notice the sharp click of the image being captured and processed into a photograph. The final chord seemed to play out longer than Paul had remembered when recording it on multiple pianos, this astounded Amelia of course.
The needle was lifted and pushed back to its original position by Paul's delicate fingers. He turned to face her once she had risen from her place on the bed. Amelia couldn't articulate a response to all that she had just heard. She was so overwhelmed that she closed the space between them and kissed him with all the passion left inside her. Paul slipped his arms around her small waist pulling her closer to his torso. They melted into one another just soaking in the desire for each other that they had both craved since they drew apart almost half a year ago. They gasped for air every now and then but never went as far as each other's lips. For the first time, Amelia was fearful that what they were doing would lead to something deeper so she pulled away and took Pauls smooth face in her hands.
"You are a wonderful human being, you know that?" She croaked looking into his glittering eyes with hers.
"Unfortunately I do" he smirked and made her chuckle at his remark and smug attitude. "You liked it then?"
She gasped "Are you joking? It was one of the greatest and most beautiful things I have ever heard"
He grinned with accomplishment but he hung on for something else.
"Oh, And you've definitely won me back" she winked and waltz down to the party that continued downstairs.
