The Dinner

Today was a fun relaxing girls' day, Katie and I decided on a nice fun spa day while Linda was at a student council meeting. My phone started ringing but I didn't recognize the number. "Hello?"

"Oh wow, I thought you were never going to pick up!" Just then I remembered who this was, it was Sharon, Damon's mom. Although her son was a jerk, Sharon was always the nicest to me and I missed her. Suddenly she broke me out of my memory, "Hey you didn't hang up on me did you?"

"No, I'm sorry how are you it's been too long!"

"I am good, but I have a little question for you."

 "Oh yea what's up?"

"Well, I was wondering if you could come to dinner at my house on Saturday?" Going to her house meant that Damon would most surely be there so I don't think it would be a good thing. "Before you say anything, yes Damon will be there but please forget that this is about me seeing you, I just really miss you."

How the hell could I say no to that? "Okay yes, I would love to come over."

"Okay great, well dinner is at 7 but please come a little bit early so we can visit, talk to you later bye!" After I heard her hang up, I looked at Katie who was getting her nails done, and knew I needed some advice.

"I know you heard all that so help me figure out what to do." Katie didn't seem to have to think about it at all. "That's easy. if you want to go and see Sharon then go, you can ignore Damon."

"Yea but what about Josh, he is still pissed about me talking to Damon, imagine if I went to his house."

"Listen, Josh is my friend and I love him, but he doesn't control you, so if you want to go, go, and only if you want to, if going is going to make you too uncomfortable then explain that to Sharon, simple as that." If only she knew it wasn't Damon I was nervous about, it was about the way my body reacted to the asshole that worried me.

Since Sharon's house is within walking distance, I decided to walk to clear my head a little bit.  I mean I missed Sharon but a night with Damon sounds like a headache.  I got to the front door but I didn't even get a chance to open it before it was ripped open.

"Oh my god, please come in Saint, I missed you so much!" Sharon ran to me and we shared a big hug, I missed her.

"Hey Sharon, it's so great to see you it's been too long!"

She started leading me by the hand. "Come on I would like you to meet somebody."

I followed her to the dining room, and I saw some guy and Damon deep in conversation. Damon looked over at me and smirked. Damon looked good, I know I shouldn't be thinking that but it's too hard so I'll do what I want.

"Hey Steve, this is Saint, the girl I told you about! Saint this is Steve, my fiancée!"

Steve gave me a warm smile, he seemed nice enough.  "Hi Saint, it's nice to meet you, I've heard so much about you." He shook my hand.

"Oh, well all good things I hope?" I could feel Damon's eyes on me, and I felt a little uneasy.

"Of course good things, now Damon here, not all good not too bad!"

"Hey, my mom loves me no matter what right mom?"

"Of course Damon, of course."  During dinner, Sharon and I were so busy getting caught up that I didn't have to worry about Damon.  I learned how she and Steve met and fell in love and it was a beautiful story.

After dinner, Damon and Steve went into the other room to talk and Sharon asked me the question I knew would eventually come.

"So Saint, any chance you and my son could ever get together?"

"Hate to break it to you Sharon but that boy was nothing but trouble back then, and I don't think that changed much." I could tell she was disappointed by my answer but just laughed it off.

"Okay fine, just thought that I would ask.  Also, I have a tiny favor that I wanted to ask of you, you can say no if you want, no pressure."

She seemed so excited now that I was a little worried about what this favor would be. "What favor did you need from me?"

She got up and grabbed a magazine and held it against her chest "Will you be a bridesmaid in my wedding?  I know that I am asking a lot but I think of you like a daughter and it would mean the world to me if you said yes."

I didn't think that was such a big deal. "Of course, I will be a bridesmaid at your wedding."

Her face lit up and then she showed me the magazine she was holding, it was a pretty deep red strapless dress. "That would be your dress, I hope you like it."

"I love it, it is so beautiful."

Then Sharon took a deep breath and looked a little nervous, so I knew there was more to this favor.  "So, Damon would be your partner."  When she saw my face she quickly replied, "But it would only be walking down the aisle and just one dance I promise."  I didn't think that this would be a good idea and I was about to tell her that I couldn't do it but I saw how excited she was and knew I could push through it for her.

"Yes, I will still be your bridesmaid, and will play nice with Damon for your special day."

She grabbed me in a tight hug, and that's when I knew I made the right choice.  "Thank you so much, Saint, I appreciate it so much." When she pulled away there were tears in her eyes.  I placed my hand on her shoulder.

"Hey no crying, it's no big deal. I get to dress up pretty and watch you marry the man of your dreams, it's a win-win."  When I was getting ready to leave Sharon's house it started raining outside. "Oh great, of course, it would rain right now."

I felt him before I heard him, "Well I could give you a ride home, I'll use my mom's car."

I turned to look at him and crossed my arms. "Thanks, but no thanks, Damon."

"Oh stop, it's a ride home you need it so just say thank you, give my mom a hug, and get in the car."

"Fine thank you." I walked over to Sharon and gave her a huge hug. "Thank you, dinner was really good, it was good seeing you again."

"Oh, you too please come again okay?  And thank you for that favor."

"You are most welcome and I promise I will come to visit again."

When we pulled up to my house Damon started to walk with me, well more like ran under the awning so we didn't get soaked, but you get what I mean. "Well Damon, we made it a few hours and didn't fight."

"Yea we are getting better." Damon almost seemed nervous but that couldn't be right.

 "I should get inside."

"But why so soon there's a lot of night left?"

And there was the cocky flirt I remember all too well. "Look I am glad we are kind of starting to get along but I am still with Josh and am not ever sleeping with you."

He just smiled.  "It's only a matter of time before I will wear you down."

I rolled my eyes and was getting a little annoyed.  "Damon, I know you think trying to sleep with me is some fun game, but I don't want to play anymore."

"I'm not playing any games, I've been gone awhile, and you have grown up a lot, that, and I missed you." I just had to laugh at that one.

"Oh Damon, you make me laugh you know that?"

"Well good, you have a beautiful laugh and should do it more often." That made me blush but luckily it was dark so he couldn't see.

"Actually, I can see you blushing right now."

Wow, I need to stop talking out loud, especially around Damon. "Well, I should get inside thank you for the ride home."

"No problem, sweet dreams Saint."

Just before I opened the door I heard him yell, "By the way you look beautiful tonight." Damn him, charming but dangerous that's a scary combination, I will not be sucked in, I just won't!
