It was finally time to go to bed. Keith had been gone for most of the day with the blade and returned late after everyone had already gone to bed. He was surprised Shiro wasn't awake still, considering he always waited up for Keith. But when he walked past Shiro's bedroom he could hear his loud snores echoing through out his room.

"He needs the rest." Keith laughed to himself and continued walking down the hall. He took off the top of his armour as he got closer to his room. Just before he opened his door he noticed Lances light was still on. "That's weird, he's so big on his beauty sleep, I'm surprised he's still awake." Keith turned towards Lances room, dropping his armour outside. Keith knocked on the door before he walked in and saw that lance wasn't there. His bed was still neatly made indicating he hadn't slept in it at all. Keith furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and walked back outside the room. The hallways were dark and empty so Keith decided he would check out the castle to see if he could find Lance. He wasn't as tired as he was earlier so he walked to go tothe kitchen for some water.

The Altean Castle was much more eerie in the dark and when you were alone, but Keith didn't mind at all. It took him a few minutes to navigate in the dark and he stopped when he came to one of the castles big picture windows. He heard the sound of a guitar and quiet humming before he noticed the silhouette that sat on the windowsill. Keith stayed hidden in the shadows as he listened to the soft voice in the darkness. It was Lance. His voice was soothing as it echoed quietly around the room. The sound of plucking strings barely loud enough to hear, but just as pleasing to Keith's ears. He knew he couldn't hide in the shadows forever so he slowly walked over and sat on the opposite side of the window. He didn't bother saying anything, just listened and looked out into the night. Lance looked over at Keith and back out the window continuing to play.

The stars were the one thing Lance looked forward to seeing every night because no matter where you were in space, you could always see the stars.

Keith looked back to Lance, who was still looking out the window. His face was illuminated by the moon and his eyes shone through the darkness. He had never taken the time to examine Lance or even get to know him that well. Lance's face still held a feeling of confidence like it did during the day, but it was was his eyes Keith was most interested in. They were a stormy blue colour in the darkness. The same confidence that radiated from Lance shone from his eyes. But there was something else too. The way he watched the night like a wild animal wanting to get free. What would he need to get free from? Keith thought to himself. Then he realized it wasn't a lack of freedom in Lance's eyes, it was a look of longing. He wants to go home. Keith realized. Then he was quickly pulled into reality when the strumming stopped. He turned back toward the window so Lance wouldn't know he had been watching him.

"How was your day?" Lance asked, his voice husky.

"Busy." Keith said facing Lance again.Lance sighed and placed the guitar against the wall beside him. Then he looked up at Keith.

"The others were tired so they went to bed early. I couldn't sleep so I came here." Lance said, pulling his knee up to his chest and resting his arm on it. Keith didn't know what to say so he just blurred out the first thing that came to his head.

"Where did you find a guitar in space?" Lance smiled at Keith.

"The Space Mall obviously." He said laughing and lightly hitting Keith's arm. He noticed Keith was only wearing half his armour and looked back towards the window. He hadn't known why Keith had become so interested in him. Back at the Garrison Keith hardly looked his way and now it was like everywhere Lance was, Keith was close by. But he wasn't bothered by it. But now Keith is gone with the blade more and he is hardly around, what surprised Lance the most was how lonely he felt with Keith gone and he didn't know the reason why.

"What were you playing?" Keith asked and he turned around so his legs dangled off of the side of the window ledge. "It sounded nice."

"Nothing really, just something I learned back home." Then Keith saw Lances face change slightly, like he was in some sort of daze. His eyes were glassy and he kept his eyes on the window, avoiding eye contact with Keith.

"Lance?" Keith said and he turned his head so he could see he face more. He was crying. Keith didn't know what to do. He hadn't seen very many people cry in his life and he didn't think Lance would be one of the few. Keith turned around again so he faced the same way Lance was and looked over at Lance. "Hey Lance, you alright?"

Lance looked over at Keith, "not at all, you think I cry for fun." The harshness in his voice was unintentional and he apologized. "Sorry, I just... I can't pretend that I'm okay anymore. Because I'm not." Lance said. Keith watched Lance and took a deep breath.

"You miss home a lot don't you?" Keith said, rolling his eyes at himself. He obviously missed home. Lance's long shaky sigh answered his question. " You'll see them again Lance. Don't worry."

"But what if I don't Keith. They probably think I'm dead for all I know." He replied quietly and wiped his face on the side of his shoulder.

"But you're not dead Lance. That's the good thing. You will see them again. But right now you're keeping them safe and you know you can't do that on Earth." Keith was slightly confused when Lance started to laugh out loud through his tears.

"I'll leave the math to pidge if you promise to leave the speeches to Shiro and Allura." Lance laughed some more and looked at Keith. His face was slightly red and he was trying not to laugh.

"Shut up Lance." Keith said not hiding his annoyance and pushed Lance. Lance was caught off guard and started to fall backwards. Keith reached out to stop him from hitting the floor and got dragged down, landing on the floor. They didn't bother getting up, both of them laughing.

Lance turned onto his stomach and stared at Keith, who was on his back looking at the ceiling. He hadn't seen Keith laugh that hard in a long time and he smiled to himself. Keith turned to face Lance and neither of them broke eye contact this time. "Thanks I needed that." Lance said to Keith as he admired the purple eyes that stared back at him. He hadn't realized how close he had gotten to Keith but he didn't care. Keith stared back at Lance unsure of what to do so he began closing in the space between them. Until there was no space to fill. Lance was caught off guard, unsure of what to do. But the loneliness he had felt earlier had gone now and he knew the reason why. So he closed his eyes and softly kissed Keith, placing his hand on the side of Keith's jaw. Keith's hesitation almost stopping Lance but then he returned the kiss, slowly sitting up. Lance knew the reason now. He was in love with Keith. Keith slowly broke from the kiss and said quietly "and I needed that." The song Lance was humming playing on rewind in the back of his mind.
